From my recent trip to Darwin

A bit of creative PP to play with a high contrasting effect in #1

Im fast learning that lighting people underwater isnt as easy as fish. Skin tones are hard to manage.

Both shot using D200, 17-55mm and underwater strobes.

I like both but prefer the face from #2 with the composition and treatment of #1.

Hey thanks - Hair goes crazy underwater. Getting the models to open their eyes and not blow bubbles is normally a challenge at first but they get used to it fairly quickly.

I just wish I had access to a heated pool down here in melbourne so I could do a bit more practice. This one had to wait until I got to Darwin!

Haunting shots, its their eyes I think..the water disturbance on (1) draws the eye!

Plenty of interest from the model fraternity but alas too cold. Hopefully more in a few months whent he waters warm up (or i find someone with an indoor pool).

I think the second can also benefit with a touch up, but yes I guess underwater photography of people would be a real challenge. I won't try myself because a) I don't want my equipment wet and b) I can't swim. Great work!

interesting to see steve.

i hadnt thought about missing catchlights, I guess the reflection of the eye is a little diferent when submerged... losing that eye contact.

i recall watching a tog shoot an underwater fashion shoot through a glass/perspex tank, which would be warmer :D

Very creative and surreal Steve. Both eye catching but #1 tends to be more so for me. You certainly are not left guessing what the subject is at all.
cheers
