Down at the beach today with some of our friends I got this candid type shot of them and did a conversion to B&W and I'm quite pleased with it. I felt it captured a true moment of love between these guys. Jane was watching their kids (next shot below) play along the beach, who were having a blast!

If I'd have 'set' the shot up I would've insisted Jane take her sunnies off, but she didn't want to and I wasn't going to wreck 'the moment'. Again this was taken with Patrick's 17-35mm 2.8 lens which I am liking a lot:

And their two kids having a run around on the beach:

I really like the second image, the composition conveys the feeling and memory of being a kid getting chased by the waves on a day where the olds would not let you in the water properly

The horizon feels a bit slanted here, however does not detract from the kids, it would interesting to see it straighted and how the kids look, nonetheless, nice stuff.

On the second image .... crop from the right ... wipeout at least the surfer in the background, but effectively the kids need to be further towards the lh side of this image.

Also, a slower shutter speed might have been useful as well, so as to perhaps get a little bit of movement blur onto their feet.

I agree with Gary on the second image. It is pretty strong now, but cropping off the left side would make it even stronger.

The first image doesn't do a lot for me. Perhaps it has more meaning for you or your friends.

Oops ...that should read "crop from the left".

Great shots Geoff...there is something magical about B&W, even digital B&W.

Maybe a tighter crop on the first image will provide a bit more punch to it, and as said already, a quick straighten on the 2nd image would be great.

I really like the 2nd image.

Nicely done! the only I could add would be to shoot from a lower angle in the second image...esp with your 17mm. That may have to be staged I suppose...
