Only had a quick chance to have a flick through the images, I really need to take less pictures this is becoming a time consuming hobby....

however, I wanted to come away with a BW image of the Glebe Island bridge as a primary goal. Here is something BW, something colourful and something arty....

#1 - is there any detail hiding in that mass of white cloud? I really like this but a bit more in the sky would really set it off! Great work on the B&W conversion mate....did you do a desaturation and then contrast adjustment?

#2 - sorry it does not appeal to me...it just looks like a building

#3 - WOW..the lines really work and the concrete arms add to the effect.

I like #2, and #1 imho would be a little better with the bushes/trees cropped off the bottom, they draw my eye away from the geometric patterns of the bridge. A lovely bridge, at least one thing the RTA did right.

#3 What is the annoying object the runs diagonally with (sort of) the right hand cables? ATJ had a similar shot and the object detracts in his image as well.

#1 and #2 are bloody pearlers. love the mono conversion especially.

Great meeting you on the weekend, for me #1 is a outstanding image and the bw conversion is top notch too. #3 is also a great image, love the angles and lines. For me #2 is the weakest shot in these series, looks like a HDR conversion, that has got the mottled discolouration I sometime see from photomatix, composition wise there a few things cut off, that distract from the main focus of the shot.

I've never been photographically inspired by that bridge, but the first photo is as good as any I have even seen. I don't mind the white sky as it contrasts well with the flag.

I'm gonna say I like #2! It's a forceful image.....it juts up into the sky, yet it's a simple image. It just works for me. Nice conversion on #1 and I agree with the previous posters that the bottom should be cropped a liitle.

Gerry - all great images! My preference is no.3 but I do agree, the conversion/lines and aspect of no.1 are fantastic. Good stuff!

The first image is great. I wanted to achieve something like that but didn't even come close to your shot. Maybe its the way the lines lead me over the bridge. The third shot seems to work better than my similar shot, but I don't know why.

I found it reall hard to get a good shot of the cables, the lack of symmetry due to position blah blah result in me taking lots of pictures which just don't look right - i did try and break this image up into thirds but...maybe a BW conversion might give it a little more...

yes this is a good point and I can see how it will improve the image, however my only issue would be losing the lower portion of the pylons - i will have a look

yeah, i was more thinking from a HDR perspective and hence composition was put in second place, the colours do look a little strange, but they did look pretty strange on the building (just a different strange)

lol, yeah, curse them silly cables that hold it up! really makes it hard from a photography point of view..

if i waited there for 5 more minutes it would have been clear sky probably for the BW convert, i just use NX2 and adjust the colour strength and colour value coupled with an appropriate (in my opinion anyways) contrast, I selected the blue colour since this became nice and dark due to the polariser.

Damn you Gerry. I think I might go format my card before I even look at my shots. #1 has to be far and away the best image of the bridge I've seen. The composition is spot on as is the conversion. grrrrrr

I really like the processing of #2 as well - there is a kind of pearlescent glow to the shot which gives a nice slightly surreal feel to the image.
