First weekend with new 300mm lens - #1 - Birds

Haven't shared many pics lately, what with a mixture of new baby (who is now 16 months old!!) and general apathy.. I have recently bought a new old lens, the Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/2.8 (Version 1). Even allowing for it being 2 models old now (the AF-S Version 2 and the AF-S VR came after it) as well as being a little bit beat up, the glass is still in great shape, and still very capable of producing excellent images.
This is the first weekend I've had a chance to really put it through its paces, and so I've got a few posts to share for opinions and critique...
#1 - Birds
These were taken during the Free Flight Show at Taronga Zoo, a frustrating favourite amongst Sydney photographers I normally use a 70-200VR to shoot this, so I was keen to see the difference a long prime makes. Well, for a start, it's a lot harder to frame your shots. I am used to starting wide and then zooming in quickly once I know where my subject is. Can't do that with a prime.
I'm reasonably happy with this lot. Once I was able to get the action in the viewfinder, the lens speed made locking on focus very easy.
