I haven't posted anything for ages, so here is one to break the drought.

Definitely one of these gulls, and probably both, were standing on one leg by choice.

Ah - I know that piece of wood well.
I should get out there myself again soon: it's such a long way to walk down to the end of the street...

Composition seems fine, but I do have two criticisms for you:
  • Your DOF wasn't enough: the left-hand bird is not in focus.
  • It's been oversharpened!

I agree with DaveB.

What a classic pose! Maybe they are giving their sea legs a rest?

Do you have any other angles to share?

  • Agreed. I was shooting with the 80-400 on a very dull day, and probably should have cranked up the ISO
so I could use a smaller aperture. Unfortunately the gulls had another appointment and couldn't wait around
    while I faffed about. :)
  • Agreed. The whole image was fairly soft and I tried too hard to get something really sharp.

The Dive is a great spot. I want to get some shots of the deco front of the old swimming pool too.

Great shot. I have nothing further to add than has already been written.
