Hi Everyone,
I just bought a 105mm Nikon macro lens and thought I would give it a try with a couple of photo's of some flowers. I'd be interested to see what people thought. C&C greatly appreciated.

Thanks Andrew

It will be a pleasure Andrew :D

#1 - The colour is gorgeous but the very small DOF in the relatively large area detracts from the overall image

#2 - A lovely shot with good DOF, I like

#3 - Just stunning. The small amount of yellow lifts the main colour beautifully

#4 - Again, great colour but the lack of a defined point of interest makes this photo the weakest

Congrats on your new purchase! I have to agree with Rooz, the first one does not do much. However #2 and #3 are simply spectacular! #4 is a nice abstract peice as well.

Great colours and detail in these shots!

The 2nd one is my pick. Simple, nice light and shadows. The water also helps.

I quite like the first one.
The shallow DOF makes you notice all the fine detail of the flower.

Love those colours and composition!

If this is your first batch of photos, I can't wait to see some future installments!!

Did you place the yellow behind the purple in the third or was it already there??

Surenj - i have posted some photo's before. These were the first I'd done with my new macro lens.

No, the yellow was there in the third.

I like them all; the '105' is a fine lens!

These were taken using a tripod. I used a Nikon SB900 as an off camera SB900 flash (use pop up flash as the master). This gave me a choice on which direction I wanted the light to hit the subject.

I see. you certainly used the CLS to your advantage.

by the way - I think you need to change your signature to include your new addition ;-)

I really like the first three.
I agree that a little more depth into the foreground of #1 would improve the image.
Very nice choice of subject matter.
