Hi guys haven't been on here for awhile...but these are some motorsport shots I've taken recently, except for the last one which I found on an old memory card. The first two were taken only two days ago and am begining to work on my panning skills. C+C most welcome.

1. HRT Commodore during practice for this weekends 500

2. Fujitstu panning shot

3. Clubman @ 1/25

Nice shots mate.

Number 1 could maybe do with somemore saturation. That orange/red on the HRT is really bright in real life, so could do with some pumping up. Image seems nice and sharp where it needs to be. Something you should try to take into account (when you can) are the reflections. Shooting into the sun (even on cloudy days) gives that reflection off the bonnet/windscreen. I know it's picky, but thats why you posted I gather. :)

Number 2 is a good panning image, but i would be inclined to have it cropped to have more empty space in front of the car, rather than behind it. It gives the illusion of the car going somewhere.

Number 3 is good. I like the frasntic pace of it, while the drivers helmet is sharp. It could do with more sat/contrast though.

Number 4 is a nice image, great light and fantastic background. My only beef with it is the large area of empty space to the left of the image. The image would have been better served using a focal point to the left in the view finder, and having the empty space to the right of the car, again, giving it somewhere to travel into. You would still have go the background you have, and the shot would appear more balanced.

They look good though. I havent shot at P.I. yet, maybe one day!

Number 2 is my Pick of the bunch, is supper sharp and very clean panning. number 3 is a little to fuzzy for my liking

I really like #1...the composition is classic, play around with it a bit to bring out that colour (as already mentioned) but try not to supersaturate and make the reds glow unaturally.. This is my favourite of the bunch!

#2 is a great example of fine panning....#3 is a amazing...but at the same time a bit too fuzzy overall.

Great to see your work

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated! It was difficult shooting at Phillip Island with gale force winds, so that didn't help, but was my first real attempt at panning with shutter at less than 1/100....normally I am around 1/250. But yeh the first shot I was happy with apart from the glare on the bonnet/windscreen. Number 2 is my favourite shot and number 3 was my first and only attempt at a pan that particular meet and at 1/25 for that matter...

Will use these tips at the Vic Champs at the Island at the end of the month...learning so much here! :D

Another panning attempt...damn those bikes are fast! Bit washed in my opinion?!

imho some great shots there... I was down there on sunday (just downloading around 500 x images at the moment) and can only hope for shots as nice as yours (although the lighting was surprisingly dull and glary on the sunday.

i really like the motion you've conveyed in shot #3, while #2 is a great panning shot (although I agree with Raskill's comment on the cropping)

Great stuff

Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread - here's the best of the shots I managed on Sunday - I must say yours are far superior!

(shame about the crop on this one - but otherwise I don't mind it)

I really struggled with the lens I was using - getting a suitable aperature to give me a bit more depth of field seemed near on impossible with the low light conditions most of the day - but I'm starting to get used to the camera (albeit slowly)
