Landscapes - Something I never do...Since I have recently "found" this forum again I thought I might put up some landscape images that I shot whilst down the snowies this winter.
I never shoot landscapes so it was a challenge looking through the lens and not seeing people!!! So what do you think? Stick to weddings!!! LOL. A. Andrew

Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...Looking pretty good here! Maybe you should work on landscape and leave the wedding business?
#1 could do with a slight straighten, but the processing has really added to the image (the vignette works really well) #2 is a bit plain and bland (I do this ALL the time) there lacks a feel to it #3 is GREAT!!!! love the overly contrasty almost comic book look to it #4 could do with a sliver cut off the bottom to reduce the dead space. Overall these are really good, you should get out and shoot more landscape! Cameron

Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...I am a people person and I often find landscapes just dont 'do it' for me (what ever it is). But I love 3 its stark i love the sun coming through .... and my second favourite would be 2 with the house. The colours are so warm and gentle, its like you can feel the cottage.
awesome
Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...
complete opposite for me..its always..'hey you move outta the way' As cam mentioned, the first needs a bit of horizon adjustment and a nice boat smack in teh middle would be the ticket, but hey cannt have everything! I do like that third one, in concept and execution! my only comment would be to go just that fraction wider. I see the potential in the stream image, but my first thought was ' camera has tilted down on the tripod'. Some more room up top and alittle less water on the bottom and this would be very nice. A circ polariser would have also made this a bit more magical.
It's always good to push yourself outside of your comfort zone, it can and will make you better and probably also help with your normal day-today photography. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...I'd keep doing them if I was you. Number one is lovely and serene (yes the horizon needs straightening but that's a simple fix). Number two might have looked better with a lower f stop- when I first looked at it I thought it was a model house. Number three is really stark and arresting.
Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...I really like No. 3. It's a great high-contrast image, it looks surreal.
The first one is good, but for me, lacks a point that draws my eye. Well done! Alex
Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...Thanks for all the replies guys. It is good to get out and shoot different stuff
I'll straighten the horizon on the first @biggerry - Funny you mention your thought on the third... this is exactly what I was thinking when I took it. I was actually after a higher view point then getting low and looking up the stream (I got plenty of them as well). So even if it doesn't work at least you thought what I wanted you to I shot a lot more of the hut (number 2) and made them into a little "horror" house scene (very desaturated processing). I think they may look better than this one? Maybe I'll do another post on that series. Cheers, Andrew Andrew

Re: Landscapes - Something I never do...One more thing...
Finding a nice shot in the snow lined trees (number 3) was HARD... it felt like I could not isolate anything, or get the right framing. So I'm glad you all liked this one because I spent ages in there and it was COLD!!! Andrew
