Got the 7D today, and took it down to Surrey Dive with the 100-400mm to photograph..... some ducks!

These are straight out of Lightroom 2.5, which only has preliminary (unofficial) support for 7D RAW files.

The above are at 1/1000, f/8, ISO 400

And for good measure, a non-duck:

Only difference is a slower shutter speed.

The AF on this beastie is definitely quite different from the 50D/5D families, and I'm pretty confident that the "AF problems" reported elsewhere were just user error. You can't just point-n-pray! I haven't quite got it down pat yet, but I think I'm getting there.

I was happy to see that I got a burst of 21 RAW frames at 8fps using an Extreme III "30 MB/s" 16GB card, which was more than I was expecting!

That's not very surprising, and it is certainly good news to hear this.

That's not too bad at all. Sandisk have just released a new card - the Extreme Pro - that, at 90MB/s, is devilishly fast, and we've done some speed tests using the D300 with the MB-D10, using an Extreme and comparing it with the new Pro. The differences, especially when extending the number of frames shot, were quite significant.

But congratulations on the new arrival. it's all happening for you, isn't it?

Nice one Dave.

Glad to hear that the AF is ok!

These pics look quite good. What I am keen to see would be the ISO 1600 onwards....

I'm very conscious that LR 2.6 (and ACR 5.6) will have re-worked handling of these files (LR 2.5 is just preliminary support) so I'm not fretting too much about things like that. Even at ISO 400 I'm seeing some unusual patterns (not "traditional noise") but I'm waiting for the first builds of 2.6 before I worry.
I'm expecting 1600 to be my upper comfortable limit, with 3200 as an extreme level. That'll be a stop different to the 5DmkII. But we'll see over the coming days.

Certainly there's a lot going on! Lots of spending today: airfares and camera.
Tomorrow's schedule includes a photo shoot (as a subject) for the local paper's story about ANZANG...

+1 with a new Mk IV around the corner it is good to hear the AF in the 7D appears to be working....did I say that??

DigitalRev posted a panel of comparisons for the ISO...and did it on light blue...and it isnt all that pretty i have to admit...such a fanboy writeup.
