Nocturnal macro

Here at Siding Spring there are quite a few geckos running around in the warm evenings, here is a Barking Gecko taken last night with the 105, 1/60 @ f/18. Its a slight crop and reduction to fit on the page here. As usual with low illumination subjects I generally hold the camera in one hand and a light in the other, since the AF illuminator is partially blocked by the lens for close subjects.
I took a few other nocturnal images, but want to revisit them to see if I can do something about the backgrounds, squueezed down behind a filing cabinet is a nice big redback, but its really difficult to get a good angle on it without it running for cover.

Thats the one :)

The Geckos are shy here and at home too, it usually takes quite a while to get a decent photo!

Interesting coincidence of shooter and subject (Gordon Gecko)

Anyway I stray - Another great Gecko shot Gordon. I've never seen one of these in real life (no doubt a little scarce on the coast), but having seen this and your photo of the blue one I find them a very interesting looking creature.

I'm both impressed with the clarity of the lens and your hand holding technique and look forward to more shots like this. The detail is fantastic!

hehehe, dont think I'll need it, from past experience it hurts, a lot!, for a few days and the bitten limb feels like its made of lead, but I survive.
3 redback bites so far... and no visits to the hospital.

Great pic Gordon. I am transfixed on the colour and design of the little critters eyes. Such a fascinating pattern too. Beautiful image.

More Geckos, fairly sure these are Marbled Geckos, doing their bit for the survival of the species ;)
I love the colour of the underside.

A loving couple embraced in each others errr, feet.

It's cool how they are hugging each other. The one with the smug look must be the male. :)

Hahah KillaKoala, was going to say the same thing.

Something I noticed he's got a smug look and has his hands/feet on her head. Looks like he's pushing her....down?

Typical male hey :)

I didnt get a chance last night due to observing (ie work), and rain and wind the previous nights kept it out of sight... I know where it lives though ;)

I wasnt entirely happy with the DOF for the redback pics, but here is a huntsman taken tonight. Only a mother could love that face... 8 beady eyes!
