Learning to Fly

Well, those old enough will remember the hit from Pink Floyd, what a great song it was, however, this little baby Lorikeet was do just this, learning to fly.

After many attempts of trying to fly over the brick wall (over a period of a few days) to get out of the yard this little tacker finally clawed it's way up some plants to the top of the wall (which numerous attempts landed him smack in the middle of) where he was greated by friends/family who proceeded to takeoff, the little guy deftly launched and followed just making it over the next fence and disappearing into teh distance! I am not sure whether he was hurt or just learning, but his family/friens where always close by during the days....the final hours had him stretching up and getting slightly better each time...

Whilst resting on the wall before the launch he was more than happy to pose

I will probably never get this close to a lorikeet again...

Looks like he was a bit cocky despite being unable to fly!

Gerry, #2 is just a great portrait. I was half expecting you going in with your PK for the extra closeness....

lol, it did cross my mind, however the vision of being attacked by a lorikeet and its family whilst standing on a step ladder also did not appeal to me :) He alsmost had his beak down the lens as it was!!

I really like three, with the crisp colours and the symmetrical blurred background, nice capture
