I bought the Nikkor 105mm f2.8 Macro last weekend. Why? Because of this forum. The Sigma was quite tempting and Sirhc55 (Chris) can certainly make that lens sing, but the Nikkor has the metal parts, Japanese assembly, glowing reviews, and let's not forget that beautiful gold box. The current rebate of US$70 helps too.

Here's one of my early efforts with it.

We could also have one called the "BIT OUT THERE CLUB" Gees, I wonder who could be the founding member to that one.

Hopefully I can join the macro club this week too... still waiting for my Nikkor 60mm .... *fingers crossed* today or tomorrow, maybe...?

My Nikkor 105 is due any minute today! Woohoo.

Steve - lovely first shot and welcome to the macro club. I have just watched a movie called Microcosmos and would recommend everyone interested in macro to watch this brilliant movie.

If there was a cure for lens lust would you really want to take it?

One thing that might be pointed out to those about to join the macro club for the first time like I just did, is how very important it becomes to keep your light level high, so you can use a fast shutter speed to minimize camera shake when working at high magnification. Even when using my tripod I find using the ML-L3 Remote Control shutter release a very good idea.

Also, if I may suggest a practice subject, I picked up two bouquets for US$15 at a local warehouse store yesterday just because they looked interesting. Lots of different and interesting looking little flowers in them. They smell nice too.

My wife reckons I should hand it over to her (when I get home from Sydney tomorrow night) so she give it back to me on Wednesday/birthday. She might weaken.

Well done.

Don't hand it over, that would be silly. It belongs on the D70 and should be tested before your Birthday, in case it is faulty: not likely, but that would be my line.
So if you bought a diamond ring for your wife today, and it was not her Birthday until next Wednesday, your chance of keeping it from her, would be a very fat 'ZERO'.

Ha ha ha - this happened to me just before Christmas........ she weakened.
