Thanks Cameron for organising this! As usual it was great to catch up with everyone and the 7D.

Here is my take from the meet. The light was fading, tough and flat. I have gone for a artsy feel to rise to the occasion. Of course, light painting was something I couldn't resist. C & C much appreciated.

Desolation


Stargate: destination far far away


It would also be nice to visit during sunrise just to see how it all looks in more directional light.

[BTW LR doesn't recognise 7D raw files; perhaps I need to upgrade]

The second and third of these images are wonderful. Your treatments of both the subjects and the images are very well executed.

I think you got some very good results considering the conditions

I really like your collection here Suren. The first 3 are really terrific. Love the atnosphere you have generated.

Thanks everyone for your comments. It would be great if we can get a fisherman to stay relatively still so we can capture him sharper. one strobe to get him to stand out would have been nice too.

If anyone is game to check it out on a early morning, let me know. I am contemplating Saturday...... Sunday is the South Head meet.

I think a study of these sculptures to purely lightpaint would yield very interesting results as well. They are the perfect subject to lightpaint... what do you think Gerry? Are you keen?

I am really itching to do some strobist lights on these. There were some good ones on the Tamarama beach as well....

FYI: There are security guards around at night. I felt relatively secure when I was walking back to the car which was 25 mins away.

it's nice to see you experimenting with lower shutterspeeds with the 2nd image

I think the last would look more impressive without the light leading to the subject if that if feasable.

i was worried when i got that message saying you were still 10 mins away from your car! I reckon you just about could have parked at home in kenso and walked all the way

I would suggest either dusk or dawn. You will have some more control over the light that way.

I didn't factor-in the uphill climb on the way back. By the time I got to the car, I was so exausted, I was tempted to sleep in the car!!

Here is the one without the light leading the way. I wish I could try the lightpainting again.....I might not have any time.

I forgot about that! I thought the 7D might be able to snoop wirelessly into other Canon's in the area.

Now there's an idea!!

Greta series, # 2 & 3 for me work best, also like #1 but would prefer to see it without the tog in frame although the inclusion does give a sense of scale to the sculpture.

apart from a 5 and 7 shot bracketing and a 12 megapixel sensor with ISO 25000, this wireless snoop function is the only thing missing from this camera.
