Taken in Chinon France, in the Loire Valley. The town surrounds a massive Chateau that is on the top of a hill. A very picturesque place and if you're ever in France, do a tour of all the Chateaus in the Loire. It's wonderful.

Kipper,

Only one complaint ... it's too tall for the laptop screen I'm looking at it on so I can't get it all in one go :D

It looks great to me. I'd hang that one on a wall.

Of course you realise you've added yet another place to visit to the ever growing list of potential travel destinations.

Cheers,
Gordon.

Very good photo Darryl!
What was the lens? Kit or something wider?

It was the kit lens.

Btw, does the image appear dark? I created the image at home and that monitor has all the brightness/contrast settings cranked up for online gaming. Just viewing it at work on the same monitor that I have at home and it's a bit dark.

Tah Greg.

I suppose I should really get around to getting a monitor calibration tool. It's something that really annoys me :)

Love the shot Kipper but IMO it is a little dark. Maybe some levels tweaking to bring the detail out of the shadows. Otherwise I think it's great.

Manta, like I said my monitor at home has brightness and contrast cranked up. Whereas viewing it at work I was like "damn that's dark".

Yeah, it appears to be a little bit dark but I thought it has been done on purpose to create particular mood. I like it this way

It's a beautiful scene and i'm sure that printed would look even better in a nice frame. Great work.

Kipper - an excellent shot that lends itself totally to the treatment you have applied.. The winter leafless trees, the slight haziness all adds up to a classic photograph of winter time in Europe - congrats :D

Sorry Darryl, I wasn't trying to be critical - just going on what I see on my own work monitor. It's probably fine on everyone else's. Like I said, though, I loved the photo regardless. :D

That's one beautiful landscape. Looks fine on my monitor. What method did you use to tone it?

NCE
Sharpen -> Normal
Saturation -> Enhanced
ColorMd -> II
Tone -> Normal

Photoshop
Provia/Velvia Action -> Provia 70% (default)
iNovaFX BWfx Action -> BW5 (shifted to a blue tint)
Hue/Saturation -> Hue checkbox to affect all, shifted to a hue that looks sepia like and reduced the saturation and lightness until happy with result.

This is one spectacular photo! It makes me want to go back to France (or anywhere in Europe again for that matter!!). I don't think it's too dark, if it were any lighter, I think it would detract from the moodiness of it!
