Hi everyone

Here's a HDR image of my favourite mountain in the world :-)

Its a 9 shot HDR so lots of scope for playing... so any suggestions appreciated.

zomg, postcard quality, would not even pick it to be a HDR image, what kind of exposure gaps did you use?

I don't think i have anything that would make it substantially better, the image has a very nice leading line of teh ridges in the foreground up to the main peak, my only thought would be a pano style, however I think if you chop that foreground away it will not work....so..

not knowing the area, is this taken from a plane or another mountain
the reason I ask is how did you get nine shots to line up if shot from a moving plane

great image by the way :)

Hi Firsty :-)
I took the photo from the Klein Matterhorn, which overlooks the Matterhorn. Beautiful place, reachable via 3 cable cars... the last 2 cable cars fit 80 people in them at one time! I also took photos of this beautiful mountain from a range of other locations, so stay tuned :-)

I agree with the others. Very nicely processed and composed.

I am left with wanting to see scale. Perhaps you could have got a friend to trek along the ridge wearing the classic red jacket. Place them at the bottom right rule of thirds.

Nicely done ,
remember to bring some shots along Sat (USB/DVD) - far more interesting than the usual TV programs

I suspect that it actually will. If you look at those ridges at the bottom, there are two of them. One heads of towards the right and then ends, and towards the left, a second one commences, leading more into the main mountain.

By cropping out the first of those - set the crop point immediately above where that first ridge ends, you now just have the second ridge leading back into the mountain from the left, and a slightly pano crop.

Try it and see what you think.

Here is the pano version, what do you think? I cropped a little bit off the sky as well, as it didnt look balanced until I did that.

wow king of the mountain
you are one brave fellow
wish i could trek for days
the most ive treked is a day in new zealand armed with strawberries and a waterbottle thats as much as i can handle
tell us more about how you treked the void to get this awesome image
did you have breathing gear?

Hey Wendle.... it wasn't as much a trek as a ride up 3 cable cars to a very cool lookout :-) No breathing gear required, though the air was a little thinner up there!

Great shot- nice clarity.

It was totally covered in cloud and snowing when we were ther- middle of summer as well.

A bit unconventional and might not work but what about a vertical pano?

I agree, but the real question is about how Cathy feels about this version?

Very nice spotting Gary, who says your just a pretty face

Thanks, Gerry, and to answer your question, nobody in living memory!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone :-)

I like both versions....and I am grateful to Gary for suggesting the pano as I wouldn't have thought to try it otherwise. That's just one thing that makes this site so wonderful!! I am looking forward to getting some of these holiday photos on the wall!

HDR is my new favourite way to play with photos!

That was Gerry's idea. I merely offered a suggestion as to how it might be implemented, and I'm glad that it works for you.

HDR is my new favourite way to play with photos!

Cathy. Great shot but i don't see the need for HDR with this one. The clouds look a little strange to me.

Try playing with one image in lightroom and i think you will get similar results without the fake HDR look.

great picture, cant spot the HDR, and the pano crop works really well.

I would love to get out there and see the world, but this does not look like it will be happening any time soon
