I was shooting late in the evening so most of the shots are quite dull. With this one i tried bumping the exposure up a stop in camera to brighten things up a bit.

really nice foxglove but if you have the opportunity to shoot again try and get something dark or green in the background so the edge of each bloom stands giving more contrast , and it may make the little colored spots stand out more - as it is just blends too much with the light background, DOAf is probably good but hard to see as once agan it blends too much into the background

I agree with DebT with the background, however I would have not thought of that off the top of my head - but it would definitely improve the image...

I'm been capped for the last week so i'm a bit behind on the threads. I'll have a catch up sessions soon and check this Nifty Fifty Challenge out.

Tending to agree with DebT too.

If a different angle doesn't work, you could try using a scarf (or something similar) as a background. With enough bokeh, as you have in this one, no one will know what it is (except us ).

I've printed this, and like others, it's much darker than on screen.
For those with good quality, calibrated monitors do you get a comparable result from screen to print?

This is pretty much normal. It is because printing is a colour subtractive process while displaying on screen is an additive process. Add too much colour to a print & you end up with black. Add to much colour to a screen & you end up with white. This is why Printing uses CMYK and display uses RGB. It also why, you want to calibrate your printer as well as your monitor.

You need to find a lab that profiles their printers - the good ones do.
Get them to give you a copy of their profile.
Even then, you may need to do some trial and error, but if you take note of what works, you can apply the same correction to all your photos.
