Hey guys

It has been a looooooooooooooong time since I've posted but I've been wanting to post something really different.
Anyway the opportunity came a few weeks ago when I was hired to shoot a few people getting their bodies painted for a party!
Basically, like a wedding everyone was running late. After the painting was done I literally had 10 minutes to setup the lights at their place and another 30-40 to shoot then it was all over red rover.

Great set!!! I have to admit that I am intrigued as to how the background is lit (gelled strobes?)

I love the clarity and detail that you have captured as well as the bright vibrancy of the colours. The poses and body language works brilliantly.

Awesome set of images, really great lighting (interested to hear more) and more so due to your time constraints!

These images make me want to be at that party!

Great set (or is that sets). Ligthing is well executed and you have to admire the talent of those body painters too, fab work.

Nice work. we also did a series earlier this year with a body painter artist and produced a book called Glamour Body Art. However we had the benefit of using the studio for most of the subjects. Like you said you don't get long with them and what we found also is that posing a painted person is even more difficult than a clothed person...

Love to hear more also on the setup....

I used 3 light sources.
1. The main was a 400W studio flash shooting through an umbrella softbox which I've set at 1/16.
2. On the right I gelled the flash to create a more interesting colorful background to shoot directly at the wall (1/8)
3. Another flash held high on the left to point directly down at the subject for the rim light (1/8).

Camera set ISO 200 and aperture at F9.

And yes the models are great! All from planet earth believe it or not!

I don't even think of them as partially nude. The artwork makes me forget all about that... Almost!
Clearly there's some 'local adjustments' going on here ... Hair extensions for example.
