I never encounter people who like their photo being taken. The usual picture I get is people's hind quarters while they run away.

I snapped up the opportunity when it presented it self. I would love your C&C as usual. Thanks for looking and your opinions.

Maybe I should clean my lens after going out to sea and having spray on it?

Hey love these shots i would love a fisheye but cant seem to spring the 1k needed.They seem to open up a new creative world.just the shots these guys look for

I think they are very good shots. Sharp, good colour, you captured well the attitude of your subject/s. I am assuming the lighting effect were done on purpose because I can see a studio light in one of them. However, in the first picture, I find you can do without the beam going through the head of your subject and the bright light on the top right edge a bit distracting perhaps you could tone it down a bit to advert distraction.

I find also a bit distracting the bubles on the hand of the last picture, but I cannot offer any suggestion. It gives the impression the subject is either materialising or dimaterialising like in one of those Startrek movies. That studio light can go and it won't be missed. You want the viewer's eyes on the features of your subject, who is revealing his attitude and a strong personality.

I like the second picture and the fact the subject is off centre, but not that his foot is cut off. But, it is an action shot so perhaps a tight cropping might help here. I like these pictures and I appreciate your creativity.

Now, from your introduction, I guess you don't know your subject well or at all. Perhaps you massaged his vanity in order to let you take his pictures; which takes a lot of courage that I don't possess, so you get a few extra points from me.  PS. Would you mind telling us the lens you used?

They are all awesome in my opinion suren, as zafra mentioned the framing on the second one would have been better if it included the whole foot, however given he is midair and proabbly darn close to you it is still a fine effort

The use of the two off camera lights are very nice, I really like the last with the barn-door light in the shot, very pop boy band style...the light flares are great and really suit this image style, probably one of those things which you could try for ages and not get!

I also like the sharp lines in the roof (just wire?), they really come out with the flash and definitely add to teh image!

lol yeah, I had the same problem, a quick run over with a damp rag then cleaning the filter did the trick for me.

There were three lights Gerry. Look carefully....
The flare came by mistake and I just incorporated it into the shoot. We didn't have much of a background so this was the best I could make out of it.

yes. It's a clothing line!!

I didn't chimp these at the time. I just kept shooting once I got the lights sorted (which took a while btw). This goes to show that chimping around is good for you. Lesson learnt. Retrospectively, I could have aimed one of the lights to get more detail on the sole of the shoe.

Fair call Zafra. Sometimes one can get lost in the extra effects and forget the subject!

I do know the subject quite well. I have no chance of attracting strangers to do photoshoots like this. He was carrying half the equipment and helping setup as well. People are not kind to you when you are setting up your stuff. "Are we done yet?"

This was unintended but I thought I'd show it incase someone wanted to replicate this effect. You just need salty sea spray on your front element.

It's the Canon 10-22. The exifs are all intact Zafra.


I can confirm that none of my lenses are good at focusing in the dark. Probably partly the camera and partly just physics. ? Ideas?

#2 is badass man. i love it. exactly the wide an UWA should be used. beautifully done.

These would be some of the best shots of yours I have seen
I find them superb.

There are always things that could be changed or different, but you have some great captures.

I have the 10-22 and find it a fantastic lens.
It is on a 40d and focuses ok in low light conditions. I find that the 100 series cameras focus less well then the 40d.

You have used your equipment to give a superb result.
Better than what I achieve
Keep being creative with this lens. It gives me somewhere to aim to!

I have never used the servo mode on my camera as it's next to useless with tracking etc. Infact, only the centre focus point is sensitive enough for day to day use! Fortunately I don't need fast focus on a regular basis.

I have been quite happy with it as well. Especially with CA it's superb. I am yet to be convinced by it's flare. IQ is generally very good but I use mine stopped down most of the time. Contrast is much better than a kit lens as well. I do wonder how the Tamron 11-16 2.8 compares to it though..it's 2/3 faster so may focus faster as well. Actually does anyone in Sydney have a canon version of the tammy?

You mean the TOKINA AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm f/2.8. Mozzie owns a EOS mount copy of this lens, its lens hood is currently MIA, but if you ask her nicely she may be willing to let you have a play (esp if she is around). Most of my experience with this lens is with this copy of it, and I have been nothing short of impressed with it.

You have that 10-22 singing all right, ace images here with that bit of something special that only comes from this lens (and most importantly your skill of course).

Awesome work mate, some great UWA photography and strobist style too.

Not strictly speaking. Only the accent light on the right is a small falsh (430Ex). The rest are studio strobes (AC powered). one bare with red gel and the other through a double diffused softbox. Purist strobists will argue that this is not really strobist perse. But I don't have any other small flashes.
