How tough is a cat?

The picture below is of one of our cats named Stoli - He's a russian blue (no, seriously).

Stoli isn't normally allowed outside (His mummy says he's "special") but about three months ago he got out and managed to get hit by a car.

He fractured his pelvis in 5 places and had quite a lot of internal injuries which caused bleeding into various places including his kidneys, yet still managed to drag himself home and collapse on the doormat.

We took him to the vet and he was very close to being put down. The vet suggested we wait a few days (with him on meds) to see how things progressed. Fortunately, the internal bleeding stopped but his kidneys were playing up for a few more days - they did settle down eventually and he is now on the road to recovery.

Three months down the track he can now run, and the hair is starting to grow back in the parts they shaved.

Stoli - A damned tough cat:

David, even though I dislike, no, hate cats, :) this fella is one tough little critter and kind of cute. Great photo with an interesting "polkadot" background. Well done.

It seems that Mummy was right about Stoli not going outside!

- great name for a cat, particularly for a Russian Blue.
- one hell of a story, glad the little bugger survived. Tough indeed.
- excellent photo, perfectly exposed, sharp, and you have captured the essence of the Stolster.

Thanks for sharing, our cat reigns supreme at our place, I couldn't show Rosanne this story, she
would be too upset! Notwithstanding the positive outcome.

Thanks guys,

We're pretty glad that he pulled through - he's a great cat that's never clawed, scratched or bitten anyone, even in play.
(not like the other cat but that's another story.. :violin:)

This shot just highlights again for me how good the combination of the 40D and the 50mm 1.4 is. It's just so easy to control the DOF, and focus exactly where you want to - even in really low light. The shot was F/1.8, 1/25th (!)

Great call by the vet, David. I'm sure Katie will want to get him something nice for Christmas.

A great portrait of Stoli, too.

Excellent photo! Congratulations on the good outcome of this story. I went though a very similar experience with one of my cats, but unfortunately the outcome was not as good :-(. It was a sad story and now I wonder whether the vet did all they could.

Cheers
Alex

Sorry to hear that Alex.

It's never nice to lose a pet - especially in bad circumstances like a car accident.
