Some Juiced Up B&W'sHi All,
Just some stuff I'm putting up for constructive critique and opinion. While i was out with Aim54x and a friend (Jod) we decided to hang out in the city for a good ol fashion shoot em up. All taken with the 7D and 70-200 f4L USM , and post processed, most have had grain added in post process, would like to hear people's opinion. Personal favourite is the first one, lets see if this works. =D Canon | Sony | Panasonic | Tamron | Sigma

Re: Some Juiced Up B&W'sHi Marcus,
As a concept, I like the idea of what you've done, but I'm not sure that the conversions to B&W do the concept justice. What I'm seeing here reminds me of the good old days of film, but of when something had gone wrong with the film in the camera and it had become slightly fogged. I'd like to see the contrast in these images given a significant boost, because to me, they don't really look like great B&W images. But I believe that they could. On a couple of the individual images, I like the fact that in the first image the horizon is not level. I think that adds to the interest created in this image, with the obvious traffic and city mayhem. The third image ... I'm wondering if a square crop might help this. The issue that I see is that the people are all over on the rh side of the frame, and moving (apparently) further towards the right and thus out of the frame. The negative space on the lh side doesn't actually add anything to this image and might be able to be cropped out. Might - I'm not sure. I think that it would have been far better to have the negative space towards the right, where the people could have been moving into it ... but of course these thoughts are easy for me to offer in hindsight. g.

Re: Some Juiced Up B&W'sBoth one and three have potential but need improvements in the b&w conversion to achieve more impact.
I quite like that the third has an offest focal point so don't entirely agree with Gary on the square crop. For me... two and four lack for subject matter interest. Michael. Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?
Re: Some Juiced Up B&W'sImages #1 and #3 have a nice sense of drama about them and work for me. The other 2 do not. I personally like this style of photography but you need to be sure you have a subject to begin with. Try asking yourself "What am I taking a photograph of?"...If you can't answer the question decisively then probably you need to re-frame the image.

Re: Some Juiced Up B&W'sI agree that the first and third are the pick of the bunch, also agree with the comments regarding the negative space is requirted on the RH side of image 3.
The conversions do suit the subjects and the lighting. Fuji X-Pro1 | X-E1 | X-T1 | XF14 | XF23 | XF27 | XF35 | XF56 | XF60 | XF10-24 | XF18-55 | XF55-200 | MCEX-11
