Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Nice lighting although the chest area looks to be over exposed and therefore losing some detail and detracting from the overall image for me. Does your model have a piercing in her top lip? There is something just below her nose which is not helping either. If it is a piercing then her head angle needs to be adjusted so that you either see all of it or none of it.

The issue here as I see it is that the lighting is not quite balanced between the face and the torso. There appears to be one light on either side of the model, and they each appear to be pointed down towards the torso, leaving the face slightly shaded, and definitely not as well illuminated as the chest area. The fur on the rh of the image also appears to be blown a little, so I think we need to review the lighting setup.

What sort of modifiers did you have on the lights, Mick?

I think that bringing the light that was on camera left around towards the front a little more, and then pointing it up - more towards the face - and then pulling the power of the light at camera right back by bout 1.5 stops, we would be coming pretty close to what is needed.

I do like the underlying treatment - the red hue suits the model and pose nicely.

All good point guys...

Geoff: it's a little shadow below the nose, not a piercing... it doesn't appear quite so sharply in a larger image but this is one of those shots taken 6 months ago that I'm only getting to look at now. I'll now have another look at the exposure levels I have on this in PP as it might be that I've bumped the overall exposure to suit the face but blown the chest in the process... again I think this becomes more pronounced when the image shrinks.... from memory the fur is blown but the chest is not quite.

Gary: this was done early this year in a group studio shoot... getting direction and control of the lighting was not possible given the arrangement so I would agree that the lighting was not entirely ideal... but that is often the hand that is deal us in many situations. From memory we had a beauty dish on the right, a softbox to the left, and a spot behind hitting the background. It was an interesting exercise as I usually work with one model alone, have total control of the lighting, and take way too much time adjusting things ... in this case we had 6 photags, 4 models, two studios with different setups, and lots of change overs which made for quite a frantic pace at times.
