boxes that capture light

These were snapped whilst out with Photomarcs (Marcus) on Boxing day. I have never been someone to take photos of random people, but spurred on by a bit of reading and the company my D300, 50mm and 135mm were given a run.

I thought this may work as a series....please tell me how I can improve them and how I could capitalise on future opportunities.

Nice concept Cameron. You have isolated the subjects quite well and I like how you have a DSLR, PS and a phone as light boxes. You can do a whole series of this I reckon.

I agree that this is a great concept.

I'd like to see the contrast and sharpness on these bumped a little. The first seems a tad softer than I think it should be, and the contrast on all of these seems to me to be just not quite there.

Just had an idea with the first one,

What about black and white filtering with different colors as the point of white? Give it a go, if you have CS3, its in the black and white function in edit>adjustments>black and white... not so sure if its on CS2..

Btw, i just realised the awesome concept behind the concept.. DSLR, Compact, iPhone.. can't wait for this collection to be established further. =D

This is great, just love the idea of going out and targeting people taken photos.

Circular Quay or Darling Harbour would be perfect for this one.

Thanks for the comments guys, I really want to expand this set, maybe find a film user (SLR, TLR, 120). I will def have a look at playing with the contrast to bump it up a bit. I'll post the results when I get around to doing so.

I agree with others on the concept and potential series of images which you could capture. The conversion to B&W is a good idea and should be continued through your quest. As Gary has stated the contrast needs to be upped a bit as the images currently look a little 'flat'.

The title you have chosen is terrific also.............

I have just done a silly thing, but I have replaced the images with slightly more contrasty images. What do you all think? I overwrote the existing images in my stupidity so it may as well be treated as a new set of photos in some regards.

I also have a 4th image for this series...but I will have to see how it goes with later on.

These are much better. They've lost all the muddiness, and now they look like photos.

Thanks Gary, I played a bit with them to work out the balance between contrast and mid tone detail, the first was esp a pain, I wanted to keep the detail on the lens.

Yeah these are much better, look forward to seeing more. Other suggestion for inclusion in the series, throw away camera, underwater camera, and perhaps you could expand to include cameras which capture moving pictures such as camcorders, movie cameras etc; etc.
