Tripods? We don't need no stinking tripods...

So I expected that by nightfall I would pretty much put the camera away since I was partaking in a little alcohol and hence left he tripod at home. Instead, I busted out and SB800, set it to TTL and about -2, dragged the shutter, 1.6 seconds on these after playing with the balance a bit, and played around. These are my favourites.

I like the first image, I think if there was not the streak of light over the face it would work even better! A bit of crop also would be nice too.

I like the concept of the slow shutter and flash, something I have not ever tried.

The second one needs to be sharper (people only) and for that dude not to have 'i can't wait to get you in the sack 'cause i am so drunk' look on his face :cough: :cough:

The last would benefit from a little cropping too, just enough to make sure the eye goes to the dude and not to other parts like the OOF stuff in the lower left.

hence left he tripod at home

tsk, tsk...what we need here is the tripod seat attachment, that way once one becomes too drunk to photgraph and/or too tired one can pop out the tripod and the seat attach and take a load off :rotfl2:

Thanks for the comments!

Was an idea that kind of evolved after several vodkas. I was just shooting my mates with flash and had the shutter at about 1sec to get some ambient and background in, know it'd be blurred. Moved the camera mid exposure forgetting about it, see the vodka mentioned above, and thought it looked cool, so started messing around and dropped the flash back. Doing it again, I think I'd hit the flash a little harder to keep them sharp, then mess around.

I might post up some of the more out there attempts with crazy as backgrounds.

Haha, we they've been together for years so at least he still does!

A great idea! A super clamp would do the job nicely. Unfortunately I didn't actually bring a chair! Not to mention we were miles away from the fireworks so I'd have been shooting at about 200mm I reckon.
