was running late to go out yesterday afrternoon, and as I got into the car i looked up to see the strangest clouds I've ever seen. grabbed the camera with whatever lense was on it and took a few quick and nasty pics. The vidoe footage on my phone does them more justice then the nikon did.
any ideas on the clouds ? it looked like a hundred tiny little round balls of cloud, all bumped together....

Scott,

Why not send MHD (also named Scott) a PM and refer him to this post?

He is very busy these days, which is our loss, but life's realities must take precedence.

I think they're called mammatus clouds, due to their "pouch-like" appearance. I got a shot of some a while ago but yours is a much better capture:

Not to trespass, but this is my little shot of the clouds looking south-west from the Norven Beaches taken on my Samsux mobile telephony device.

Very impressive cloud structure.

I always thought they were called mammatus clouds because they look a bit like boobs.

Good example too.

Hmm, or is wikipedia a real authority on this cloud type? :P
