My watch

Felt like tinkering with some light, so did something a little different and shot my watch. I've had it for a few months so it's not as pristine as it could be, and looking at the fullsize shots could have done with some cleaning of it and the box, but the idea was the light. Got a bit of distortion I need to watch and you can see the joins in the paper, but here it is.

Its a nice sharp shot of your watch there... and its also a lovely watch (I hid this shot from my boyfriend cause he would just have to get himself one if he saw it lol)

I was a little bored so I had a bit of a tinker with it on Photoshop to brighten up the whites (by selecting the outside area then using the white eyedropped on it {in levels}) and what a difference it made.. I then inverted the selected area then did an auto levels on the case and watch then added a bit of contrast.. it popped! Oh and one more thing I know you only took it for fun but most photographers who do this kind photography for the advertising market set the time for ten past ten when photographing watches .. its supposed to make the watch look more 'friendly' like its smiling lol..

Dawesy, nice specular and shadow control. I think DH and "Light, Science, MAgic" would be proud.

Personally, I would like this watch on a shiny black surface to make it come alive...

I picked it up in Switzerland so it was pretty cheap, I love watches but don't actually wear one most of the time!

The whites do need to come up, I was just too lazy to do any post on it! I might have a crack tonight. The 10:10 thing is a interesting idea, if I ever do it more seriously I'll try to keep that in mind!

Funnily enough it was revisiting some of DH's writings in my quest to put together a mobile lighting kit that got me thinking about doing this and the setup was from vague memories of a post of his about shooting watches. Glad it worked

Nice try for the set up you have. Of course a seamless background would look better.

Exposure is good and you have managed to keep the reflections down.

For this type of product shot a small light tent works wonders, and cheap as chips....try fleabay.

Nice work.You've held some delicate tones there. A good trick is to put some dry ice in the background and use longer exposures. Gives a lovely misty background.

I like the bottle on wine in the setup shot Nice work. You've almost convinced me to post some of my G9 redbull shots up here, when I have them hosted correctly and resized for the forum.


Also if you don't want it to be 10 past 10 you can do 10 to 2

Thanks Matt, the dry ice idea is cool, I would never thought of that!

Amusingly enough your red bull shots made me thing about doing some bottle/can shots myself, perhaps that red you noticed!
