The Creek

Went out to Tallabudgera Creek on Sunday - Very hot and, after this was taken, very crowded.
This is my first real go at HDR, I think it worked.

I think it's worked too.
Would a CPL filter have been handy for cutting the reflection on the water?

'Tis an excellent HDR. Just the way they should be done. (Not overdone like some.)

Hi John,
I really like the photo and it is a nicely done HDR. However, IMO, the brightness of the reflection in the water kept drawing my eye back to it (and due to the refraction of the water, it looks out of focus - even though it isn't).

I took the liberty of doing a quick Capture NX2-edit job (using a few colour control-points and Auto retouch tool), to tone down the reflection and some of the brighter areas - see lower image.
If you would like me to remove the edited version, please let me know and I will do so.

Just another option on what is possible...

Cheers,
Dave

Thats a nice shot of a tranquil scene - I would be interested in seeing the original centre bracketed .nef image, how much dynamic range was there in the scene?

This is 3 of 5, Photomatix has done wonders.

Looks great, and I agree with Steve, it is not overcooked like so many HDRs

I do like the version that has a toned down reflection.

Greats stuff

Nice work John (great name too!)

I'm curious to know which of the various HDR techniques you happened to use? the "automagic" photoshop with some tweaking, a more manual approach in photoshop, or something else all together?

My problem is that the water is not
credible. Some, on the left, is static;
while some in the right is blurred,
hence moving. What is it?

John - the program I used is photomatix, and PP in CS3.
Zafra - the water that is blurred is only the reflections of the brightly lit folage in the background, it was moving, not the water.

Thanks John. I can see it now.
I've had that program now
for six months, but never had
the occasion to use it.
