Hi guys.. these are some of the results from my third studio attempt (still learning the ropes here).. I decided to do a fetish/pin up theme.. I know its a bit of a mix but I was aiming for Fetish with a touch of girly.. (does that make any sense?).. anyways as always constructive critique is welcome.. :)

hi sue

looks all good the models poses are suggestive and you have captured the emotions well
Although this looks more like a burlesque concept than fetish apart from the chain image

I've recently become more interested in the whole burlesque scene as i prefer my models vivacious, sassy and saucy after shooting fashion moels for the last 3 years it's a welcome change

how are you cleaning up you backgrounds in photoshop, if so i can see some clipping effects, probably best if you shoot against white to light it evenly with 2 lights rather than photoshop the backgrounds clean

also if your going to develop this concept more you might want to look at shooting the models in a contextual scene like bedroom, burlesque club and make it look more boudiour for mood

but your doing so well anyway, proud of you

For those of us who are on a long learning curve could you please explain
"clipping effects"
"shoot against white to light it evenly with 2 lights"

Thank You
Bruce

Sue - stunning shots, as are the others you haven't posted !!
My absolute favs are the two with the cherry ... something so seductive and yet sublime if that makes sense :)
You are kicking ass my girl - keep it up :) :) ;)

Great effort for a "Beginner??" if its not too picky I think the use or repositioning of a reflector to reduce/remove the shadow on her upper inner thigh is appropiate as this seems to be the only obvious shadow--keep up the good work--jim

I agree with Rel. The cherry shots do it for me Sue.
Nice work

my mistake i looked at it quickly and thought there were really sharp edges so i assumd the models were etched against a white background, instead of using lights to whiten the background
usually i would make the background white by lighting the background to avoid additional photoshop work

You're right it i more burlesque than fetish.. but I'm thinking thats my girly mind as the whole gritty fetish images don't do anything for me so yes we tried to combine burlesque with fetish/pin upish type shoot.. weird I know lol..

I did shoot with a white background but only used one light to light up the background.. should I place one on the opposite side to really whiten it next time?.. The backgrounds came out white/grey and I just used levels to whiten up to how I wanted them.. although some of the shots I deliberately shot as grey to emulate the old style burlesque shots (will post them later).. I wish I had a place to shoot like a club or bedroom but as I have to hire studio space I don't have my own lights to use in another environment.. *sigh*..

Thanks so much for your feedback. I'll take in on board for the next shoot for sure!

Good point Jim.. I hadn't even noticed that .. now its driving me nuts lol!

and thank you everyone else for your feedback.. its a bit scary posting the studio shots up as I am so new at it and not yet confident ... but I figure the only way to learn is to throw them out there and listen to the advice.. :)

Interesting images. Agreed the composition and poses are great.
The chains image, it looks quite violent around her neck, probably the effect sought with such heavy chains and with the direction of light to enhance the shadows / lines of the muscles in her neck. Dramatic lighting in this image works okay because of the dramatic content.

The last image, my impression is that the high light on the right side (her left, obviously) is either a tad too bright, or close. The legs are illuminated well, but the areas around her left shoulder, breast, nose, forehead and middle finger are very well lit, possibly highlights, certainly more a yellow cast coming through on her skin than the evenness of lighting around her leg, arm and rest of hand, and indeed images 1, 2 (just - see arm), and 4 in particular, which are exposed perfectly. Though the feature of image 4 should be the cherry (what she is doing), the detail, colour, and excellence of exposure of the tattoos on her arm really grab my attention, which I think is a great thing and gives the image an extra focus.

The red of the gloves is really strong in image 2, particularly compared to the red of the feathers in image 5.

Well, my thoughts anyhow.
Overall very well done and not something I have had the opportunity to shoot for more than two decades.

hi sue

generally if your trying to make a white backdrop look white you need 2 softboxes on either side to get rid of all shadows

or use a huge parabolic reflector and position the model 4 metres away from the backdrop
but parabolic refectors are expensive

the other way you can do it is place a huge white sheet behind the model and light with a strobe directly behind the white sheet thats makes a white backdrop

sometimes you can make better deals shooting in fully furnished bars than fork out the money for a studio

sorry for the late reply i've been in New York

You just need to set the background light(s) to 1- 1.5 stops higher than your key. I guess you knew that though. I can see the black you've produced from the same background is appropriately underexposed.

Beautiful stuff Sue. Did you direct the poses?
