Quite like #3 David. I wonder whether you tried any with slightly faster shutter so that the body is not blurred? Was flash used for this?

It's tough to balance. Without flash you miss the face completely. With shorter shutter speeds and flash, the blur is less but never really goes away (unless you freeze the action which deafeats the purpose:mrgreen:)

This is about the best I was able to get as far as freezing the body but still getting some fire:

I agree, this is a lot harder than it looks, even when you do get your settings correct, the whole scene can change in a second depending on where teh fire is being twirled. I found I nailed a few shots and tried these settings for the next artist but failed miserably, it was a constant process of shoot, change settings, shoot..etc...

I like the third image, it shows the craziness of the fire and the disturbing flexibility of the performer...

#3 is great, good balance of lighting between the flash and fire and a great sense of movement. It really shows what she was capable of and create a beautiful effect at the same time.

#4 is great as well, I found it was really hard to get these types of shots where the face is nicely framed, so often the fire come screaming across and you get this headless body consumed by flames!

Yep now I realise. What we need is an adjustable knob for the ambient.
