Peugeot 206 GTX

Postby aim54x on Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:11 am

A friend of mine asked me to take some photos of his car as he is about to sell it and wanted some images to remember his it with. It is not really a GTX (the 206 does not come in GTX) but in fact a modded 1.4lt base model.

I have used a combination of speedlight and Wolf Eyes Defender 260 in conjunction with a softbox (thanks Gerry). This is only the second attempt at lightpainting for me.

24-70mm f/2.8, Creative Lighting System - SB-800 and SB-600 off camera, pop up commander

10-17mm fisheye, Wolfeyes Defender 260 - tried to get a bit more from the boot lid....i dotn think it was all that good

#1 needs light on the roof
#2 the disembodied boot bothers me. Not sure what you can do about it.
#3 Try cloning out some of the bright lights. Esp the red ones inside the car.
#4 That's an unfortunate ding just above the bumper.

In all of them, I find the red stripes just too over the top. Are they really this colour?

What me picky?

Nice!

The second shot is the best for me. The light is beautifully controlled in that shot.

clone it out....

The last image is very nice, great angle and view on teh wheel, a winner for me..

needs light on the roof

a little PP (d-lighting or shadows) will fix this I reckon.

Good choice on the fisheye for some of these shots, they have turned out quite nice.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

Thanks for all the comments!

#1 needs light on the roof

I had a lot of trouble with that...I really need a 3rd flash to to it (and a 2nd voice activated light stand) I just could not get the light paint happening with the torch and soft box...maybe a revisit later on.

#2 the disembodied boot bothers me. Not sure what you can do about it.

With only black glass in the missing section I am not 100% what I can do with it....I'll haveq a look to see if I can bring it out a bit more in post.

#3 Try cloning out some of the bright lights. Esp the red ones inside the car.

the red light in the car is actually a feeble attempt to get more detail inside the car (he has fitted a red bulbs for his interior lights), I am not sure how much to get rid of there.....

That's an unfortunate ding just above the bumper.

Damn....I didnt see that one last night when I was looking at the pictures....

AND...yes the stripes were that colour (I agree they are a bit over the top...def not my first preference in colour)

Cameron, It would have been nice to see the right front wheel on your last reworked image. Looks a little awkward without it.

Loving the off camera lights you are using. Great stuff to combine light painting and off camera light.

:agree: with Gerry that the #4 with Ding removed is the best of the bunch. It makes the car look dynamic and alive rather than just an object.

Thanks Suren....unfortunately that wheel is well and truly lost under the cars shadow somewhere (it has been lowered substantially compared to the stock 206 - something in the region of 4-5in), but I do know what you mean.

As a treat, after I got some help from Marcus (Photomarcs) I have completed a rework of this image...this time rectifying the red stripes....for me as well as for Greg....how do you like blue?

Image

how do you like black?

I like the sky in that one Suren, but the red stripes look a bit dulled down....I think this is beyond my capabilities

Thanks for sharing

no probs Cameron, Hope you noticed the right hand side wheel... That's the most useful addition.

Yeah I did dull down the red slightly. Otherwise it's hard to balance with the blues in the image. Also it looks like it's been photoshopped when it's really strong like that. [I know in reality that the red was that strong but I think how digital handles red may have something to do with it.]

I did unsuccessfully try to add some lightbeams to the head lights...

Thanks Suren. I did notice the right wheel...not much of it there and it was i deep, deep shadow which means you have had to brighten it up a lot to get it out. Red and digital....that is a painful thought.

i will def need you to walk me through it next time we meet in person

:agree: Grr I need to calibrate my monitor I think. I thought your initial versions were too warm causing the silver to look 'muddy'. Feels like 3 blind people leading more blind people assuming no one has a calibrated monitor out of the three of us.

I wish! I had to create this wheel from scratch... Lucky the left wheel is avaiable for reference.

Mate, I would be very happy with the pics if this would be my car.
It sounds like it is not easy to get the lighting right.
Will have to give this a try one day.
