I love the bunch of straws shot.
The way the color changes slightly in each straw is awesome.

I think the last three are the pick here Steve. Very simply but very well executed abstracts. The design and graphic qualities are excellent. :)
cheers

Steve,

I like the first two, and the last.

They all display a level of creativity and workmanship of the highest order.

And shit, they look bloody good too!

LOVE the forks!!! Although where do the white tine/triangles come from? Is that the flash reflecting from the bottom of the tines on the underlying surface? Very, very interesting.

And I really like the straws too. Very creative.

I love them! I believe the one with the drop
of water would be a stronger image if you
crop the top part so you get an uninterrupted
pattern broken only by the drop of water.

I would like to learn how you managed to get
the sparks on the lighter. It must be a trick!

Hi Stephen,

:agree: with the others. These are varied and great stuff. My fav is #2. This has been done to death yet you have found a fresh new look for it!

Maybe you can share your technique for some of them? I can't see the exifs but is the first one a long exposure with no light except from the sparks? How did you ignite it without your hand in view?

I am also curious as to what surface you used for the forks? There are some brilliant white outlined reflections on the bottom which intrigue me.

No tricks...

This must be done in a darkish room. Clamp the lighter in place so it doesn’t move.
Camera on a tripod. Manual - 10 seconds and F22 (105mm Macro lens).
Flick the lighter a few times to make the sparks. One of the times I made sure that I let the flame just start. Make sure that you move your hand/thumb fast enough so it won't show in the picture by having it in one place too long.
Manually triggered the flash, which was hand held so I could try different positions. This was to get the light going through the green plastic for the background and to light up the lighter. I kept it dim so the metal didn't reflect much, maybe 1/128 or 1/64 power. You could just use a torch to light paint the lighter.

I agree with the water drop crop but no one would realise that the drop is on a feather - it's probably not that obvious now.
