Apologize for the size. Tried to get it down to a reasonable size without losing too much quality. Will adjust when I get home tonight.
Taken at Churchill National Park at Rowville, tonight at about 5.30pm.
Will add camera settings tonight to the page.

Nice one Darryl, and check out the claws on the front paws which you have captured beautifully - they look wicked.

Great shot.

Gotta love having subjects like this 15min from my house :)

The funny thing is that I've lived here for 20years and never realised that they had Kangaroos up at Churchill National Park. I've even been on a school field trip there for Biology, never recall seeing them there. Perhaps they were introduced I don't know.

Top shot mate, I like the roo's expression, the colours & shadows, and the blurred background.

Well it's called Kangaroo Track. They do have some Black Wallabies in the area which I've seen, and which have also scared the shit out of me because they usually dart past you when you least expect it.

I'm pretty sure it was a fairly young kangaroo. There were quite a few packs of them, they got really active around 5pm and it would of been great there later but I had to be back by 6pm as I was going out. There were some big males in the area. Was quite annoyed because when I first walked through the gate, I didn't have my camera out and I didn't expect them to be down so low in the hill. I turned and caught this huge grey male that reared up. I quickly tried to get the 70-200VR out but as soon as I got it attached the camera and ready to shoot he started to hop away. Must of frightened him with the pure size of it :)

If I had boots on I would of probably gone after him. Just a bit nervy about going into knee high grass without decent leather 12ups. Probably get a few Copperheads and Red Bellied Blacks up at Churchill. Although I haven't seen any up there yet. Have seen snakes at Jells Park, and spoken to the Park Rangers and they informed us they were Copperheads.

Kipper,

are you also going to get the leg warmers for your tripod?

I saw that at Birddogs the other day, they look pretty good.

I might just see if I can get my mate who works in the Air Conditioning Industry to get me some copper pipe foam lagging and just duct tape it.

Does the G1325 come with any sort of spikes?

No spikes, only rubber feet.

What???????????

It's like selling a car and saying "you want wheels, sorry that's extra".

BTW Kipper, The phase of the day for you is "Value adding". You have to purchase the spikes seperately just like the LCF-10 and the L-bracket etc :D :D :D

PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 8:54 am
by kipper
The LCF-10 is different, not everyone uses Arca Swiss QRP. Remember the 70-200VR still comes with a foot!

Not everyone wants to do portrait mode with Arca Swiss QRP.

However I feel that most people will be taking their tripod outdoors/indoors and as such should get spikes stock standard, not as an optional extra.

Kipper, dont get too concerned, at least you are able to purchase alot of these items at Birddogs prices! :D not retail.

Go to http://www.gitzo.com and check its spec.
Yes, the car is driven by you everyday and standard with no a/c, you want a/c then to pay extra $$$, same as go into the restaurant and order your steak, extra part is what sauce do you want Sir? pepper, Diane, mushroom sauce! buy a hot chip and want a tomato sauce, extra $0.50 Sir!

Kipper, you will want spikes sometimes and the big flat feet for marshy areas, maybe some gum boots for swamps. You did order all three didn't you? No point good legs with no feet

PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:11 am
by kipper
Didn't order any feet

PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:16 am

Joking Kipper, you will be ok. They do make spikes and big flat feet though, if you do need them. If you put spikes on you will not be welcome on aeroplanes

PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:18 am

Whilst I agree with your analogy in some respect Birddog for paying for extras, like I said previously it's not like selling a car with/without A/C. In my eyes it's more like selling a car without tyres.

A set of rubber and spikes should come stock standard with a tripod imho. If you want big rubber feet the size of a teaplate, then fair enough pay extra. Or magnetting or suction tripod feet. Yeah these could come in handy on pitching decks :) Then yes, you should pay extra.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting and raving. Just for $850AU you could expect them to supply a set of each of two most used feet.

Try ordering a Porsche Kipper! For $900 you could get two sets of feet, for $850 you get the base unit. Isn't it nice to have a choice?

kipper,
It comes with standard rubber feet same as standard wheel and tyres on the car, if you want a set of mag wheel with low profile tyres then please add extra cost on. Nothing for free in this earth my friend!
I don't have any spike or extra rubber feet on my Gitzo legs

I don't want, I feel if I invested $2k in tripod/head gear then I should spend a small sum on something to protect this investment.
