Blackheath pics from today.Well, I got to Blackheath around 11.30 and drove around for awhile looking for dudes wearing minni-trekkors or D70 polo shirts. I could'nt find any so I took a few pics at the cemetry and the lookout, and then had to go home because my darling was feeling unwell. That's how it goes sometimes.

They must have lied... they didn't go to Blackheath and left you all on your own.
The Tree - dissects the picture right in half. I guess you are the neat and in the middle guy. The Grub was interesting. The flowers - do they look 'right' to you Matt? They seem a bit washed out.
It was my disappointed with Blackheath meet!
Arrived there after 1/1.2 hour drive with all my gear in tow. Met Gary & Lindy at one of the intersection and they're off to their motel, could not find anyone around, rang John: he's still in the bush somewhere, rang Matt.K, he left for home earlier. No stubbsy, No gleff, settled in the Victoria Theatre for lunch, terrible food they served and too expensive. Most other restaurant closed at 2:00PM. Heavy overcast, see no sun, temperature down to 12 degree, how can we do sunset without seeing the sun, we made our decision to go home. I drove around nealry two hours in the area and did not spot any one of our members, nothing to see at Blackheath (perhaps we're stranger and don't know where to go)I left Blackheath for Sydney at 5:00pm. John rang me at 5:15 and said no sunset shoot due to heavy overcast, I was about 15min away from Blackheath. The flight in a small jet bound for Avalon was cancelled due to the forecast weather in the afternoon on the return leg to Sydney, severe storm etc...another disappoint! Haven't put the real tests to my D2x yet. Anyone want to buy? Birddog114

Lets have a D70Users.com/ebay auction for it. I bid $150 to start!
They are plastic flowers left at the cemetry and have faded. It is this fading of the colours that attracts me. Onyx...when you die demand fresh flowers, replaced every day.
Birdie...sorry that I had to leave. The little lady was feeling unwell. I too couldn't find any forum members around. The bastards blend in like good photographers should...but I would of thought the polo shirts and minni trekkors would have given them away. Hope the cave shoot went well for everybody, and I guess that's what it was all about. Regards

Myself and 4 others were nut yesterday, wandering around few streets as strangers Birddog114

You are right ...the tree cuts the image in half. But it also stops the eye for a second before it travels off into the distance. I dare to be different. Does it work? A number of people I have shown it to like it. Some don't. I also have many pectures of the same scene without the tree....but they are somehow too scenic...too "Womens Weekly". I also avoided the cliche of placing a person wearing something red in the foreground. There were plenty of tourists there and I thought about it and decided.."Naaaah". Regards

Birddog,
You left too early.
We had already all agreed to meet at 5:30 at the Blackheth Motor Inn, and we did - John and his family, Peter, Adam with his partner and another lady, Mikhail and his fdamily, Lindy and I, and Gleff. We all wandered to Govett's leap, and saw (gasp!) a few shafts of sunlight, but a good sunset was never going to happen. Not there, at any rate. We did see some caterers preparing for a birthday party though. We all retired to the Gardener's Arms for some refreshment, before dinner at Ho's Palace. I think it's fair to say that good time (and feed) was had by all. Well, all except one lady on the next table who objected (with good reason, I might add) to Stubbsy's cellphone ring.
That's a real shame; I know you were looking forward to Avalon. But that's ok; I'll relieve you of the burden of the D2X; it's obnviously bringing you heartache and pain. How does five dollars sound? g.

Hi guys,
Just back from Jenolan Caves... Unfortunately I had to bail out of the caves at lunchtime today coz my dodgy knee was objecting strongly to all the steps... The other guys should just be finishing as I type... Sorry you didn't find us in Blackheath Matt & Birdy... As Gary said, we had arranged to meet at 5:30 at the Motor Inn, so I was not expecting to meet anyone earlier... I was out in the deepest darkest bush where all the good photos are, not wandering around the streets in Blackheath... Now... what to do? Read the 800 posts on the forum or post a few pics from the weekend??? Cheers, John

Gary,
Yes, I rang John on arrival and John told and gave me details of the meeting point at 5:30pm. Matt.K rang me around 3:10, he said he was at home due to his "young lady" wasn't well. I left cos I haven't seen anyone around but expected to spot coupa of our members, If I've met you or other one, I might stay back and joined the team. The wife and 3 kids, did not know what to do, I drove around and around since I met you at that intersection until 5:00pm with boring, part of that heavy overcast, it was, so final decison was made, dashed home and do something else! Part of weather, the jet got some technical problems and we decided not to take off, well another time! I buy me a jet then Stay home today to clean all the gears, give them a good "steam cleaned" " spa bath remedy" ready for next week when fozzie arrives in Sydney! Birddog114

Sorry I missed you Saturday. Didn't get there until about 4 after the 4.5 hour drive from Newastle. I also think the tree breaks up the image too much and distracts from the background. I'm guessing this worked for you or you wouldn't have shot it. Shows how subjective this all is The cross is great. That well seasoned wood and the almost dead weeds complement each other beautifully. Flowers 2 - that plastic or ceramic turtle really distracts me. My eye keeps jumping to it. Flowers 4 is perfect. The faded colours and the composition make this very effective. Peter

We were there unyil 5:00PM wandering around the main street and few other corners, tried to look for a "Zoom Zoom" in metallic champagne, did not spot anything. If we have met you or anyone else we would stay back.
