I saw them but I'm not too sure about what to say because I've never been in this sort of cave (can't figure out what it is). I think my favourite of the lot would be the second one from the right in the top row.

Small but most active part of the forum, probably, still recovering from the trip
I just quickly went through my photos but even didn't choose best ones.
You've got some interesting photos - I'll have a closer look later. But I'm still thinking - should we make WB corrections or leave pictures with warm yellowish cast?

Sorry John,
I saw these last night but was to tired to reply
What can I saw... They look like my shots
I have a feeling most of the members shots might look similar.
Did you get any good shots of the river? I am curious to see how other members captured the river as some of my best shots (in my opinion) are of the water.

Leek,
Some stunning shots there. I'd be tempted to adjust some of the yellowish cast with an incandescent white balance: you'll be amazed by what a difference it makes. I took a bunch of shots at Ngilgi Caves in WA a few months ago and was blown away when I removed some of the warm cast (not TOO much!)
Hope you all had a great time there!

I like them and I'm looking forward to maybe printing a couple at Birdies one day....if you are OK with that.

Tim Good tip, hadn't really thought about this since I haven't started PP, but all the lights were incandescent globes so that (now you've mentioned it) makes complete sense.

There's a chance to use preset WB with Pringle lid or Expodisc, then those pics will be perfect in the camera at first.
That what the preset WB will do in those guessed WB with mixed lighting.
If you happened use the Expodisc, then you'll see what I meant.

ANother good point. I own neither, but I'm almost certain gleff used an Expodisc so it will be interesting to see how his shots came out.

Unfortunately, even using an expodisc in the caves didn't help much.. On the other hand, maybe I just wasn't doing it right

Can you elaborate. Did it make no difference to the white balance, or were you just not happy with using the Expodisc.

Geoff,
How do you the preset WB? and have you done it right? and have you done it in each caves or difference direction in the caves where you want to capture an image?

I've been happy using the expodisc outdoors, but for some reason in the caves, it didn't seem to make any difference.. but bare in mind it's the first attempt at using it and I was probably not doing it right. Eg. I was presetting to the scene rather than pointing it at a light. Overall, I don't think it made a difference in the caves at all. If someone else had done it, it probably would have been fine

Geoff,
Just my thoughts, doing preset WB is always pointing the camera to the light source instead of the scene, yes if you do it right with the mixed/ assorted lighting sources in the caves, room, hall, then of course the Expodisc will correct the WB which fooled the camera WB or its meter.
The preset WB is not for only useful outdoor but do help indoor setting WB with mixed colour and various of lighting sources.

So if you point it towards a light source, but there is mixed lighting, how will it work? That's the reason I was pointing towards the scene because the light sources were all over the place.

Say: you want to capture a small corner or some effect at one corner of the caves and the light source there's the ones you need to do the preset WB.

gotcha... I'll try that in future.
That's why I love this board.. you learn more from other people, than you would doing a photography course

White Balance update:
Looks like I was wrong about the expodisc not working for me in the caves.. I just had a look at the first half a dozen shots I took (which was the only time I took a preset, and they actually came out looking pretty good.. In fact, If I take the same shot and apply incandescent white balance using capture, it looks worse. So It looks like it was fine.. My only problem seems to be I didn't keep doing presets throughout all the caves, and shots.

Geoff,
Even in one cave, it has few corners and each of them with difference light sources/ colours, then you have to re do the preset WB when or where ever you point the lens to difference spot.
It's little bit of timing involved but I love it when I came home with all preset WB photos taken.

After seeing how good the shots come out using this expodisc.. I'll have to remember to keep presetting
Certainly worth the hassle though.. I just wish I'd kept doing it in the caves.. Now I have to change a hundred odd shots.
Incidently.. I found the effect of using Rear flash in some shots look pretty cool.. It's like a purplish colour to the rock in the forground.

Looks like the shoot in the caves would have been great fun... Dunno whether the colors are accurate or not but I love the effects and colors in these...
Cheers
