WA Eagles - Stirling Ranges

Well, i have taken craploads too many photos in the last few weeks, one highlight was the Sterling Ranges where we climbed a few of the peaks within the disturbingly small park (25km by 60km), this particular peak was Toolbrunup which was quite a good climb (Class 5). However the highlight was not only the spectular views from the summit but the presence of two wedgetails and 3 odd hawks that were circling in the area.

I took alot of shots just to try and get a decent image of the two wedgetails, even with a 300mm lens i was no where near close enough, these guys were quite wary of our presence and excluding a low pass during the ascent that sounded like two miniature FA18's belting past, they stayed quite well out of reach.

Nonethe less the pleasure of seeing these birds, and being able to view them from above, was incredible...a 300mm f4 with a 1.7TC would have been perfect, not to mention something with AF  anyone wanna sell me one?

Anyways, here a few of the better shots, both cropped.

and of course the pano from the peak!

there was quite a few flowers, however no where nearly as many as spring apparently, I did get a few shots of some of the flowers that are endemic to the sterling ranges and more so the two peaks, bluff knoll and toolbrunup peak. Its always more special to get a decent image of a flower which you know is only found there! Plenty of snakes though, being the first walkers up we spotted a few  .

This will no doubt take weeks to process!

I quite like the blueish cast which seperates the birds quite well from the background. I know what you mean about AF, once I saw an eagle carrying a LARGE fish off the sea and snapped a few off; all out of focus. probably more to do with technique.
