Hooked up with Suren a couple of weeks ago on the run home, just in time for sunset. Not a bad old spot to take a few pictures and watch the sun die down, prolly a great spot to live too - few too many kids tho :roll:

a couple of shots of the little jetty :up:

comments, improvements? anyone got a boat to spare to whack in the composition?

Oooh, love the first one. Although I'd remove the little dark spot in the water on the right.

A great spot there Gerry - as is the Lion's park at Belmont. I actually want to go against the flow - I really like the second of these - the silhouette's are a great touch. Both images look weird colour wise (especially in the gradients) which I suspect are jpeg artifacts.

And why didn't you guys ask me along :shock:

It is a GREAT place to live.
And as for the kids, they give the composition in the forground of the jetty!

As for suggestions.
Did you hang around for about half an hour after the shots shown?
Often just before the full dark sets in you get absolutely magic dark blue skys and the lights around the edge of the lake.

For the first shot
If you have a torch with a good strong beam, light paint the edge of thw wharf (from where you are standing) this highlights the wharf and the refelection. Not to much, just to highlight the sides. Possibly also try lower, closer to the ground level.

For the second
Probably just a bit too close to the subjects. I would move back a couple more meters or more, Add all the extra view to the bottom with the wharf and water. Take one as you have it, and take another with a very low amount of Flash (either -3 and and/or off camera bounce around)

Sorry guys, I have to take responsibility. I can't remember the sequence of events but it may have been last minute?? Although there was talk of Gerry visiting NC for several months now.

Next time I will make sure I let you boys know.

Stubbsy, have you followed the movements of the sundance group in NC? They are extremely active for sunrise and sunset shoots all over NC.

Love them colours in both! I really find the 2nd more appealing, maybe it is the silhouettes, but at the same time I would like to see them being smaller in the frame as not to dominate it. BTW why wasnt i told about this trip up to Newcastle??

great effort for shots on the run!! #1 is my pic, its something that i would like to look at when i need to relax, looks like a gorgeous spot, can't say i've been in NC for more then a night, so next time i might stick around and check the place out!!

I was passing thru one the way home, I only had a very small amount of time, convienently around sunset

- however I will be dropping past again over the Easter long weekend so if anyone is keen to do something at the start or tail end of that weekend you could count me in!

yeah will do, it does draw the eye away..

interesting Peter, I will have a look at the nef's later and see if tehre is any difference, I think I had a polariser on as well...

had about 30 minutes total I guess, basically walked up to meet suren, then 2 min later the sun was gone...

Canvas may hide some of that noise on the LHS as well!
