I've been trying to add some headshots to my portfolio lately, to balance out the full length shots that dancers seems to always want.

I wanted to ask others if the direct eye contact is enough to balance out the bits I cropped out at the top and left. I would go for a tighter crop, but I want to keep her hair in the frame.

I reckon you need to crop out the cutoff parts on the top left, or go wider and recompose them in the frame. My eyes get drawn stright to those hair items, particularly the green thing, hence maybe tighten it up to have just red hair, face and some neck. Maybe a square crop? just thinking out aloud here!

I have to agree with the big man.

I love the eye contact and the expression, as well as the makeup and hair. Howver the cut off items at the top lead my eye up tot he edge of the frame and I want to see them. If you can include them I think it would be stronger, or shoot it without her wearing them and really focus on her face and in particular those wonderful eyes.

I would tend to agree with Gerry, but since you can't reshoot, I would color the green thing red and bring the attention back to the face.

I also think the tighter crop to get rid of the green thing on the left would benefit the portrait.

Like the quirky theme. Also the use of the wider Focal lenghts adds to the weirdness. However, maybe shoot from a lower angle may help. so as we are not always looking down on her. Also should maybe try some longer FL (above 100mm ) esp of the head shots. Would be good is she cold have pulled some faces . Like the contrasting and bright colours. Nice set!

Thanks all. Not sure yet that I've figured out what do do with the shot, but I'll try surenj's idea when I get a chance.

I'll have to go back to longer FLs, but since I bought a 24-70 I haven't been able to get it off the camera
