As an new member intro, I thought I'd kick it off with an image post to critique. Been lurking here for a while, and I've seen some fairly impressive stuff!

Anyway, I finally had some spare time to post-process some images from 2 weekends ago.

I still shed a tear when i see the obs now :(

Good pic though. I'd burst into tears if it was in B&W and had a bit of grain to add to the desolation and desruction of it.

Hi Daniel_r,

Nice shots.

Welcome to the club.

Your photo looks very familiar, would this on be the same object ?

christiand,
It sure is.

I had fun trying to avoid the reflections off the glass windows :)

I ended up cleaning as much dirt off the outside of the glass with my shirt, putting the lens hood on, resting the lens hood on the window and cuping my hands around the outside of the hood to block out any ambient light. Some bystanders though I was a bit strange!

Your shot shows more of what looks like "bird droppings" on the telescope frame. I later figured out that it was actually molten lead/alloy from the old dome

On the suggestion from xerubus , I had a crack at a black and white conversion - and came up with a deep red duotone instead:

Ah,

that's how you avoided reflections and I thought for a moment the doors had been open and you got inside the remains of the building.

CD another way is to carry a piece of black fabric and gaffer tape in your bag. When you need to shoot something with too many reflections you just tape the fabric onto the glass and act like an old fashion photographer hiding under hte black hood.

I love the BW. Please explain what you did, it's wonderful. Good call Xerubus. I find I am converting to BW more and more often these days.

Nice shot.

This was destroyed in the Canberra fires right? Where is the replacement?

Welcome Daniel... Our canberra group grows some more!

And there is a replacement planned but the whole thing is hinging on a large insurance issue...

Great shot! Kind of reminds me of that old black and white movie, 'Journey to the moon'. Looks like it's ready to launch :)
