I have been wanting to try this for some time and tonight Marvin (Lee) and I had the time to give it a go. Does it work for you?

You must read the same blogs as me, this is something I've been looking to try as well!

Looking at the original, it seems you've got the technique pretty much sorted. All you can really control is framing and exposure and I think you have them quite nice.

I like what you have done with the processing for the final images as well. It's a very different look and takes it to an abstract level. The blue plumes give a feel of an ink drop slowly dissolving into water, quite different from the original subject.

Nice work!

i prefer the inverted look because it doent look obvious

Wendell it is a light bulb with the glass removed so that when you switch it on the filament blows and you get the rising smoke, this all happens very quickly - less than a second. If you want to try this you will need to hurry as these type of bulbs are harder to find as we switch over to the newer types.

Very cool Tony.

Does your lens warranty cover exploding light bulbs?

Yes thats all there is to it. Place the bulb in a plastic bag when you break the glass and you will not have any mess to clean up!!

Very nice photo

I actually prefer the original over the inverted image. The photo was very well exposed and just perfect for me :)
