Re: The Header and the haircutI find your background distracting in all these shots. Also, you are too far from the action. #2 could be a corker except for these two issues.
Some options: Crop harder Shoot with a wider aperture Get closer Use a longer lens Get lower so you are shooting against the sky. Choose a different spot so you have a blander background With #1 try cropping vertically. Lose the player to the left. He doesn't contribute to the shot. And the Pole to the right. Greg

I have that gear myself if you swap the d700 for a d3 Its OK for soccer, but you do have to wait until the action comes close, I cant see your EXIF but at say 5.6 the DOF is becoming a bit too much for good subject isolation unless they are right on top of you Good shots though - but as said crop tighter Darren
