Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day paradeJust a few photos of people in their military regalia. The mood was still quite festive in the afternoon, just a few from a small collection.
View the series Thanks for looking. Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day parade40 odd views and no love - wtf, those out there posting images and not critiquing others should be shot..
Hey Piro would have been great to catch up with you on the day but looks like you there at the tail end of it. These image jump out at me for the really good BW conversion, black blacks and white whites...the style is consistent throughout your whole series (on ur linked ones too) and not just cause they are all BW, compositionally they all follow a style, one that I personally find quite pleasing, more so since alot of these images I would not have thought to take myself. For example the first image, it has a lot going on in it, from the reflections in the window to the happy sign - it all seems to work and I am not sure why, but I like it. what did you do for the BW conversion process? straight conversion with lots of contrast? or something else? gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day paradeYou have a very unique inclusive style of photography.
I love #2 as the subject is very clear and plenty of context has been provided to keep the viewer interested and looking around. Art gallery type of stuff I think. Perhaps blow it up and hang it up in 2055 so everyone can look back at 2010 post Anzac shaningans....
Yes. I think with a Canon.
This sort of style is beyond my capabilities.
Re: Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day paradeThanks biggerry for your comments. I use a plugin called power retouche to do the black and white conversions. I previously used a different plugin but lost it when I changed computers.
I spent the weekend taking photos in black and white (not sure if you saw the previous ones I posted of Cabramatta). It was a bit superfluous as I took the photos in b&w on the D700 in RAW, which meant I had to reconvert them on the computer. I didn't want to just take the photos in b&w as JPG (as this would ensure they were b&w at the time of processing on the computer) due to issues with loss of quality, etc. When I do the b&w conversions, not sure what the equivalent steps are in Photoshop, but I like to use coloured filters, and adjust the contrast and levels of the highlights and shadows. Hope that helps. Incidentally biggerry - I went to Newtown on Monday morning with a friend to check out the area. It's such a mixed bag but lots of photo opportunities. I'm still going through the photos as I ran out of hdd space on my computer :S Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day paradeThanks surenj.
Not sure if posting it up at the size I did helped give some of the photos justice, for example the 3rd one (which is one of my favourable photos of the weekend). I was fortunate enough to be able to take my time observing people since everyone seemed to be more relaxed and weren't too aware of having their photo taken. Mind you the very next day was a different story hahaha. Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: Sydney CBD - Post Anzac Day parade
lol, man ya stalking me... it certianly is a mixed bag and that is certianly a more favourable term than what I would use! That said teh diversity of people and the locale does make for some interesting photography, its just a shame I have been here so long I can't bring myself to go out and walk around with a camera anymore - actually I should get off my rear and do that. if your ever in teh area again with a camera post on up and we will get a few ppl together - maybe some portrait stuff like last time?!
yeah that sucks, been there...twice.
yep that does, if your really bored feel free to post one of the colour versions gerry's photography journey
