I shot this handheld, out the window of Puffing Billy whilst standing in the carriage, and yet I was still surprisingly happy with the result:

jpeg conversion seems to have dulled some of the colours.

nice hand held shot - some interesting lines and color variations . The green does overpower the Autum leaves so perhaps a little PS to recover them would be worth the time and more accurately represent the season as you saw it (rather than a geberal saturation boost) ..and think I'd either loose or desaturate the shadecloth bottom LH
May be worth checking the color setting on your camera ie may do better with Vivid on Nikon, or scenery on Canon for the jpg conversions - just a thought

This shot is obviously a nice reminder of David's birthday so it will always have an emotional reponse from you.

I like the fence lines adding a structure the the scenery but I too would like to see a little more "punch" from the colours in this images, bring out more of the autumnal reds and yellows and I would also crop to remove the greenhouse in the lower left but would leave in as much as possible of the yellowish diagonal from the hedge behind it. I'd also remove some of the sky when cropping the image to a 1:3 ratio so it is mainly a relatively wide panaroma of the autum trees and landscape.

I will have another go at editing it. This is shot raw but seemed to lose a lot with the JPEG conversion in Lightroom. The yellow hedge is a lot brighter in my onscreen version and the colours stand out better. Or, if anyone wants to have a go at editing the RAW image let me know and I will put up a link.

Strangely, I like the greenhouse in the corner but it appears I am the minority.

could not have said it better...

crop to get those fences as leading lines to bring teh viewer the main area of focus, the house, garden and sheds...

I love these kind of shots, the rolling hills and the leading lines, I have seen teh scenes quite often, most recently in WA, but trying to get the right angle and squeeze it when driving or the like is difficult, so I think you ahve done alright here.

Thanks all, really like the edited version. I will have another go with the raw image, still want to bring out the yellow in the hedge (and Bob, I will put up a link for the raw file as soon as I can reset my password on my website).

Ant - Thanks for the raw file.

Following is a superquick edit doing the following
- change WB to daylight cloudy (6000K)
- change Nikon picture control to Vivid
- set a black control point in the shadow of the tree to the lower left of the central house
- rotate image by 2% so more of yellow hedge remains after cropping away the greenhouse
- crop to a 1:2 ratio

Total edit time less than a minute but far from a completed image but enough to help me work out what I'd like to do with it. I hope you still like it and I'll have a more 'proper' edit tomorrow when I have more time.

That looks much better, Bob... lesson for the week, I really must invest more time in Lightroom.
