Kirribilli with Kakodrilo

Last Friday I met with Kakodrilo (Alberto) to snap off a few cliche frames of the coat hanger and the pond. Being a Sydney local I struggled to find much to do so I made sure the Fisheye came out to play. Here are a few that I took...so how do I stack up against the marketing??

#1 good shot. As a German tourist, I'd buy that postcard any day
#2 A very different perspective on the bridge. Love it. POTW?
#3 Can't see that all that extra work gives you anything over #1. Yes I can see the difference. Just don't think it adds significantly to the photo.
#4 I think this is over exposed. All the lights are way blown. Perhaps a HDR candidate so you get the lights AND the shadow details. If not HDR, then I would prefer to see the gardens in darkness & the light not so gone.

LOVE #2 cam. have never seen that of the SHB before. the way you got that wire glowing is really cleverly done.

Cameron that barbed wire is some interesting shot! Is that all available light??

#3 I feel IS an improvement over the first but the bottom 25% doesn't really help it. Perhaps crop. I am wanting to see more sky on that. Perhaps a lower angle of view?? I am sure Gerry/Gary [The crop kings ] will comment.

I am undecided whether the curvature adds anything. I wonder what the lay person will think of this. Would they find it fishy?

#4 has a little bit of distracting light on the left hand side. Either crop or darken.

Mostly I agree with the others, so I'll just +1 all that

As to the question of 1 vs 3, I prefer 1. I don't think the foreground detail in 3 adds that much to the image. It starts to dominate as it takes up nearly 1/3 of the frame but it doesn't have much interesting to offer. I think the dark foreground is better, and I tend to think it could be framed a little higher with more sky, or cropped a tad off the bottom.

Thanks for all the feedback guys....I think I will explore some pano crops (and ditch #3, because the HDR didnt add much other than distraction in the foreground now that I look at it). I would have tried to get more sky in, but that would produce a concave horizon...which I dont like the look of.

As for the razor wire...yes it was all available light, they had some mercury vapour lamps (I think) lighting up the wire which was on top of a stone structure....I saw it and thought I had to do something with it.

As for the pano, I was trying to use an average exposure across the scene, I will have to play with the TIFF file later and see what I can do with these runaway lights....

BUT I think this has given me another excuse to drag the kit out again!
