Now, that's just simply beautiful!
The colours, composition and the
insinuated movement of the waves
and clouds against the static rocks.

Ok Bob, now you are starting to make me homesick. This is a lovely image and a view of the boulders I have never seen before. I went to uni in Dunedin and used to ride passed these a lot on my way to Christchurch.

Great shot Bob.
I booked my NZ holiday yesterday, doing a campervan trip on the south island for 12 day in September.

Awesome work Bob. For me I found the boulders hugely underwhelming to visit and didn't even take a shot of them! This image really makes me wonder what I missed.

Thanks for your comments Peter,

We arrived at Moeraki about 3pm and scouted out the location for a shoot next morning. Like you I wasn't that impressed.
We then went in a souvenir shop and checked out some postcards to look at some prospective composition ideas.
Next I checked out tides and sunrise times on my iphone apps and the tide didn't look good for the comp.I had in mind.

Furthermore the weather was grey and overcast with more of the same forecast for the next day.

So we got to the beach with only a thread of optimism left only to see more of the same dense grey cloud cover. Then like magic just as I was ready to pack up my wife said "look" and the colour arrived like magic.

So whilst the tide wasn't what I wanted we were treated to a really good sunrise for which I am thankful.

So I can fully understand that there have been many visits to this location ending in disapointment.

Magic stuff Bob. I too was really disappointed when I was there - although it was midday and the light was all wrong. We didn't have time in the area to do sunrise shots. In fact, I didn't even go down on the beach - just looked at what we considered a few boring rocks from the kiosk area! Like Peter, I never fired a frame.

Your shot has really opened up the possibilities of the scene and given it a very eery context. There's something otherworldly about the shape of those boulders and you've captured it brilliantly.

The Master of the Rising Sun has done it again!
