I revisited a few images from some time ago, the images did not really jump out at me as much more than touristry style pictures of some very nice planes hence I left them and forgot..

So I was looking for something else and had another look at these and tried a few various PP reworks. These are the ones I came up with, I personally quite like them, maybe just because they are different to what I usually do.. but nonetheless, so I am interested in opinions, is it a thumbs up or down?





I reckon this one might benefit from a tighter crop...

As an armchair amateur I am not qualified to make comments but overall I would give it the . The last one with the grease bucket and the BBQ as you say would be better with a tighter crop. I like the post processing you have done especially number 3.

These are great. I really enjoyed looking at these. The way you processed these gave it A very nice 3d illustrative effect. It made the rivets pop and the chrome ''magically' shine.

A very interesting look, but at the same time it is very fitting for the subject. PS...tighter crop would be great!

as I am not into airplanes, I find the tight cropping of these images lets then down. the last shot, even with faults, is more interesting to me. These images can be improved a lot and create more interest with some simple dodging in PP.....

Gerry these have a great illustrative / polished/ magazine like feel to them. Reminds me of David Hill, Jill Greenberg (the manipulator!) type of feel. You have chose perfect photos to convert to this style as they have high specularity from multiple light sources!

Can I be cheeky and ask to see a largish original? I want to see whether I can achieve the same look in PS before I beg you for the technique....

As usual, the composition is very pleasing. I do agree the last one may need a slightly different crop. Perhaps try a longish (pano type) crop through the middle.

The only qualification you need is the ability to type.....

I relly like the pp effect but what lets me down is that some areas of the aircraft tend to get lost in the background clutter. But if they were cropped tight I would want to see more, I just can't be pleased.
The pp really does suit the subject though.

Love the PP work! top stuff! The only thing That I'll comment for here is the tighter crop, thumbs up. For some reason I'm thinking Square crop for these as a set...

yeah I was trying to go for something more than that run of the mill 'ohh thats a nice plane' shot, glad you enjoyed them.

not quite sure what you mean here but feel free to point to a specific example, are sections too dark? like on the second, around the raaf symbol and the '23' ?

When i started looking at them I had not intention of going down that path, however I don't mind the illustraive/3d look here. I may even actually save this tech as a batch process

yeah I hear ya, its a hard balance when you do not have alot of room to work with, its either go in tight and pick a particular feature of aspect of the a/c or go wide and encompass the whole aircraft and the plethora of stuff surrounding the a/c.

yeah was a few people interested in doing something at the airport awhile back, there are always the boring aircraft around, its getting to the nice ones like the Staggerwing which is tricky. If something comes up I will post up here for meet or the like.
