I recently (about 6 weeks ago) purchased a Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM UWA Lens (for my Nikon D90) which has been fun to use - also many many years ago I also used to do 360 degree stitched panoramas and wanted to do some more.

The first two shots were taken inside the Queen Victoria Building

1/60 sec at f/6.3, ISO 3200, 8mm

The next is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) image I generated from shots taken from the top of the war memorial steps looking back towards the city buildings around museum station near sunset – it was actually those cool looking clouds tinged with the pink of sunset that I wanted in the shot. I used bracketed shots at 0, -2 and +2 EV.

Looks pretty amazing...but for an ultra-wide it distorts hugely!

It does at that however it is a 115 degree field of view (on DX) - I've left these uncorrected but may one day play around with that new lens correction feature in LR3 and see what happens.

If you want distorted (in a creative way) and for a bit more fun - here is a shot of my daughter which I took after we had watched Alice in Wonderland - think the Queen of Hearts...

HI Remorhaz
I Like the shots and I have been considering the Nikon 14-24 f2.8 can you post a tighter cropped section or email an original image to me to check for detail/quality

cheers jim

That pic of your daughter is very Queen of hearts....

That distortion turns me off this lens...there is just too much of it, and it is strange distortion....I prefer my fisheye!

But that's a part of the fun and attraction of the ultra-wides.

Love the QVB shots. Great colour, and great imagination in being able to visualise and produce these image.

I agree. It is also great to have the option of un-distorting with software if possible. I am sure with the right software this lens can be un-distorted...

Looks like a fun lens to me :). DXO will have a module to correct this lens on the D90 in October. Normally it will offer a progressive correction like on the 10.5 Nikon.
