That's great Steve... A couple of questions...

Were those three separate photos? or three separate versions of the same photo with different WB or exposure applied???

Can you describe the technique for combining them in dummy level detail? I'd like to try it on a couple of mine...

The technique is quite simple.

The pic is made from three totally seperate images. One with correct WB, the other two with the same WB (not a correct one) but different shutter speeds.

They were added as layers and i had to move them a bit to make them line up. That bit was fiddly and hard to get right. Once they were lined up i adjusted the opacity of each layer until i was happy with the colours.

There is no reason why you can't do this to other pics if you have them in NEF. Simply change the WB of a couple of images and up/down the exposure a bit then combine them as above. it will also avoid having to try line them up too

That shot is really quite incredible, and easily the best posted so far. Well done Steve!!!

I have had a play along similar lines with some of my shots, but haven't even come close to the effect you have achieved. It really is quite spectacular, and a wonderful representation of what we saw.

When using raw always use SAVE AS, because if you use save you will change the original file. Using save as lets you to convert back to as shot using the original image PS great shot......I like the blue one so different

Copy RAW files to another directory and working on them, leave the original intact incase.

great shots and well combined... nice...

i guess this would be a good example of what you could also do with bracketing of around -1,0,+1

Birddog .....you are right.......Always make a copy, forgot to say I save all my originals to cd or dvd before processing.

Again, awesome image Killakoala. Awesome skills too. This one has a great sense of depth and the colouration looks so natural (read credible) and yet is rather sensational to look at. No cave pic overload here!
