On Sunday I got roped into going along and helping out at a joint UTS Exposure and USYD PhotoSoc event, a trip up the Katoomba. I will be first to admit that this was never going to be any fun for me, but I didnt think it would be such a painful experience.

I traveled light with only the D60, 35mm f/1.8 DX, 180mm f/3.5 and SB-400.

As a consolation I managed to get a few snaps that I like (AND realise my D60 needs a sensor clean).

I really like the #1. You have compressed the view very nicely and the blue tones are a treat. Would be very effective enlarged.

#3 the blue and warm tone combination makes me a little confused. I am not sure to feel cold or warm . How about a complete blue or BW look for this one?

#4 has beautiful tones but the foreground silhouttes are not as strong to support it.

#2 appeals to me but needs contrast, it looks washed out. The composition is good and the flowers lead you into the image, it is also exposed spot on.

Thanks Surenj. With #3 I will have a look at BW or Cyanotype, but this is how the camera recorded it....funny isnt it? I actually cropped #4 to reduce the foreground silhouettes, I dont think there is much more I can do with that one. Tighter crop?

Thanks Gerry, I will have another play. 180mm hand held in dying light....I may actually warm it up a tad as well to reflect the conditions. The 180mm seems to have a cool cast, bloody SHITMA

Thanks Colin. That sunset was shot handheld with the 35mm.

I guess it is these UTS types....simply here to study to pick up mommy and daddy's pay cheque and keep them happy
