I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to take some dance portraits.

I struggled a little with the background. I wanted a gritty (some graffity etc) but couldn't really use my AC powered lights on location.

Also my fill light decided to not work so had a little trouble controlling the shadows on the subject.

As usual, I would love to hear your C&C.

The lightign in the first two is quite nice and appropriate, the sharp shadows by the two lights works well imo. The garage door backlight is a clever idea, nice thinking on that one, for both the first and teh second the images rely on symmetry, your are just off to the LHS of the centreline of the image - this sticks out like dogs balls to me, however others might not even notice so much. 1/4 of a step to the right would have gotten that concrete line 'lined' up and the model split down the garage door.

How about a portrait crop on the second image? basically either side of the redline lines from the garage. All that space does not rock my world and the crop would align with the direction of the subject... w/ regard to teh symmetry i imagine you where using your wide angle lens? I appreciate how hard it can be to get things looking symmetrical, even just a fraction off the centreline and it sticks out..well like you know what I have found this with aircraft shots using a wide angle.

The last image does not do it for me, the trick looks hard and he looks like he is flying...but gee...hes in a freakin garage and I can't get past that - some suggestive PP to put him in the sky would be the ticket

I love the first two - great work. I do agree with the centering comments tho

With the last - I like it but I think a little more "head room" would have given it a bit more impact.

Yes! I was having alot of trouble. MY 430EX doesn't have a modelling light so couldn't see the garage door while I was taking the shot!!  BTW I notice my exif data is gone. Maybe LR is stripping it. This was done with the 10mm.

This shot was done on day 1. The others on day 2 when I had time to review the shots from the first shoot.

I am kicking myself about that. Grr... I would love to have had a tethered shooting option.

Make sure you are doing an "Export..." not an "Export for Web...". Export for Web strips the EXIF.

Ant, I have set up numerous presets which use the flickr addon to upload directly to flickr. I didn't even notice a upload to web option! Will have a look.
