I've been experimenting again with black and white. Please let me know what you think of the results.

The colour version of this one is HERE

These both work really well as B&W. I love the tones in #1

Both stunning Peter.
I think I prefer the tones and symmetry in the 2nd image only slightly over the 1st.
Do you care on sharing your conversion technique?
I still use one that Matt.K taught me years ago within photoshop by converting to LAB mode, splitting channels and then adjusting the last mode (can't remember off the top of my head which one). Anyway, I'm sure you're probably using LR or something similar?
Well done though, nice shots.

#1 Stood in that exact spot and took the same shot.
That is a beautiful church to photograph and you have done it justice. The exposure is spot on in a tricky spot
I remember you posting similar shots of the church with your 300. Did you find much difference with the 700?

Great shots and well suited for black and white.
Number 1 stands out because the arches leads
the eyes into the picture; while the find enough
details on the way to make the picute interesting.
Excellent composion, contrast and sharpness in
both photographs.

nice BW conversions here Peter, the first one is my pick, doors within doors are always a winner for me. The BW version craps all over your colour one, hence you have made a good decision on the PP direction.

I cannot really fault the second image but it seems to be missing a prominent focus point, maybe cropping the sky away a bit might keep me on the gun ports rather than wandering off to see the sky... :?:

Wow Peter that #1 is a corker! Beautiful tones, textures and composition. It's a winner in every way. Canvas it!!

Both images were processed using Nik Silver Efex Pro (from LR) and a variation I've made of the High Structure preset. I then made some minor changes by adding some Nik Control points to tweak the brightness locally in some spots (eg I pulled it down in the sky of the second shot)

I have been meaning to sample a copy of Silver Efex Pro....

I am going to go against the thread and say that, on screen I prefer the colour version of the first one. I think it conveys a sort of warmth that I would expect in that type of building. I have a hunch though that, as a print, I would prefer the BW version.
