Last weekend took an hour out before catching a flight out of sydney, Clovelly is great spot, close by and is quite accessible.

I may do this location again shortly since I really want to nail a nice panorama from here. Comments for improvement always welcome.

#1 easily clinches it as my favourite. Those clouds look amazing!! you can Pano crop just them and print it LARGE
#2 your sky looks very fake....HDR...so hard to balance
#3 VERY IMPRESSIVE, this would looks awesome large and I am sure it would be the talking point of any room where it is displayed
#4 very much the same as #2

Very nice - I like them all but I think the first is my pick as well.

#3 however - that wierd wavy cloud thing in the upper left - perhaps you could clone that out - at first I thought that was your reflection or mine in the monitor or something - a bit distracting.

Agree with the other guys re that weird cloud in #3 catches your eye and has to go
Recognize the cloud formations and the colour.... captured the same at Maroubra on the same morning
Now all you have to do is achieve the same using your filters

there is no, i repeat no HDR in these images, they are all single shots (except the last which is a pano of two images side by side). They were all taken using the polariser and the Lee GND filters (0.2+0.9).

yeah picked them up late last week and just could not wait to try them out hence the quick and dirty run to clovelly...

Gerry these are truly epic shots. They are easily the best landscapes that you have posted to-date.

It is hard to pick a favourite but #3 stands out a little. I would however clone that funny cloud as Rodney has suggested. It does stick out a little.

I really want to go back here. I suppose we can go back for a dual purpose; this and the swimming pool.

if your in town just drop me a line, as mentioned its a great spot for a quick shoot, especially now that we are familiar with the location, these were at high tide (or getting close to) from memory which is the time for these rocks....

There is not a huge amount of info here about the way people PP their images, so heres some info about this particular image, its basically edited in CNX2 with 5 main adjustments (thats about 5 mins for me), it also has 7 healing brush actions. I adjusted the d-lighting (hi qual), corrected colour cast (automagical), contrast adjustment, upped the warmth, cropped, cloned all those spots out around the sun and made a final minor contrast adjustment.

The original SOOC (with camera settings applied) is below.

I am still not convinced on my filters yet...but I suspect thats due to user error...

Sounds good. Maybe in a coupla weeks. I am keen to do two days in a row during a weekend. The second would be a familiar location where we can arrive late (ie 6:15) and leave just after sunrise depending on the light. (?0715 or so)


Thanks for revealing your edits. This D-lighting business really is a pseudo HDR from the look of it. Nice healing of the flar btw. I did wonder how you avoided it at this angle.

ok, build quality is premo I reckon and the filters themselves are very good quality.

My issues are user, I have not actually tried a single filter by itself, this has resulted in a lot of teh issues you see in the above images and in teh long reef ones, excessively dark corners is a pain and when coupled with a polarizer you get vignetting and at times strange colour bands.

What I need to do is work from teh other end of the spectrum, use one low stop filter and work up to a happy medium, however I am so used to having very few filters (2 in total) so I am like a kid in a candy store...whack them all on and go for it! There is also quite a bit of fiddling for each shot, getting the GND transition in teh right spot, blah blah blah... and all this takes away from my composition concentration..

I thing I have worked out tho, using the 0.3 and the 0.9 and offsetting the transition points of the two can turn what are essentially hard filters into pseudo soft ones...

I reckon the best thing you can do is to remove the polariser off your wide angle lens.

This will remove all banding and make your vignetting magically dissapear.

This is truelly amazing! I love image 1 and 2 so much. What do you think of the lee filters? I'm planning on getting mine this weekend. Once again I love these photos Gerry. Keep up the great photos.
